Feeling flat after specialist appointment
« on: June 19, 2018, 07:55:29 PM »

Hi ladies, just an update on my appointment today,I think I wanted a miracle, but knew deep down there wasn't going to be one. Having done lots of research on this site and other places,I knew what I should be on,and I managed to get oestrogel before my appointment, but have only been on it a week.he wants me to stay on 4pumps,and he wants me to have utrogestan,so he's going to write to my gp. He wants me to get bloods done in 2 weeks,to check levels and maybe adjust dosage. Also when he's checked my levels are stable he may give me testosterone to lift mood and energy levels.

But that sounds like a GOOD outcome, Lisa! What else were you hoping for? It's just going to take a bit more time - that's the magic ingredient.😊 xxxx

Hi tempest, yes I am happy that he knows what I am taking and is happy with it,as I have been self medicating,my gp has no idea how much I am taking,I don't think she really cares, but I knew I was on the wrong progesterone,as was making me feel ill. It will be interesting to see what my levels are after bloods.

That's a very good outcome Lisa he's did exactly what he should have done I don't understand why your not happy with that result. Testosterone doesent work in every case and he was correct in telling you that you need to get your oestrogen levels balanced before he can start you on testosterone it's taken me 6 months to do that before I could trial it,he's also told me that after 3-6 months if no significant improvement I can just stop it and no harm done.
You have an excellent meno specialist there Lisa so be guided by him and be patient it's not going to change overnight.good luck x

Thank you daisydot, did u have a good holiday? I know, like I said just want this nightmare to end,he doesn't have a magic wand, and I know that,it's just the fear of going back to last year again that fuels my anxiety. He is a lovely man and I am glad that he agrees with what I have put myself on, I will be happier when I see what my levels are, then he will tell me where we go from there. I'm just too impatient.

That's good then Lisa just go with him and work with him he's an absolute gem and will look after you but don't expect testosterone to be that miracle drug for you,if it is then fab but take it one step at a time it's still early days for you and I hope it goes well x
Holiday was fab thank you xx

The body doesn't often get where it is suddenly so it will take a while for the body to absorb any hormones.  Do you keep a mood/food/symptom diary so that you can chart how far you have come?

Hi Lisa1966 - thanks for the update on your visit but sorry to hear you are feeling flat as a result - but now you must have faith in what has been prescribed and take comfort in the fact that you have seen a specialist who has listened to you and will be monitoring you.

As the others have said you now need to give it time and try to find positive things to do each day towards your health ( or leisure time!) to take your mind off the HRT and how you are feeling. Maybe keep a brief diary - but perhaps not every day as it will encourage you to dwell too much on the exact nature of how you are - just smiley faces or otherwise at the end of th day - and hopefully after a few months you can look back and see how far you've come as CLKD says.

All the best :)

Hello  Lisa1966.

I also saw a meno specialist yesterday and wanted to say that my experience was the same as yours and I feel just as you do now. I think it is because we are desperate to be well and fear that the regime we have been prescribed won't work.

Wishing you well and sending hugs.

K.

Hi Kathleen and Lisa

I just want to say that I know exactly how you feel.  I was terribly ill last autumn / winter to the extent that I couldn't do anything as i was so exhausted.  My life ground to a halt and I was desperate for help.  I too wanted a  magical cure.  The HRT oral tablets that i took for 3 months didn't help me at all and I was getting worse.  I paid to see a  specialist who prescribed Oestrogel, Utrogetsan and Testosterone.  I wanted a miracle cure but there isn't one.  After a month I was a bit better but not much.  Three months later I was back at the gym and now I'm leading a normal life again.

It's so hard.  But have faith that you will get your life back. xx

Hi Kathleen,it's a very difficult time isn't it,trouble with me is I'm impatient and want to feel better yesterday, although that isn't possible. I have suffered for 261/2 years with anxiety and depression,on and off, which has ruined my marriage and taken away what should have been the best years of my life. I have been divorced for 16 years, and on my own for 6,I have resigned myself to the fact that I will spend my autumn years alone,as I don't go out anywhere,so no chance of meeting anyone, and what do I have to offer anyone anyway. It's been a ...t life,I just want to be able to cope, god knows what I will do when my children leave home. I'm sorry to unload, I am just so lonely 😭

You shouldn't be lonely on here ;-).  Also if you went to the Appt. rearing to go and expecting opposition, there may well be a feeling of flatness after especially if the Consultant listened  ::)

Anxiety ruined my Life at times  :'(.  I offered DH 'out' but he stuck with me  :-*.  Without a loving husband, a good GP and medication, I wouldn't be here.

Why?   I went through that a few years ago.  My GP helped a lot.
