Hi All

I was doing a clear out of my desk yesterday and found some quotations I had found, and written down, when doing a search on the net;
I wanted to share these with you as I feel they are so relevant to us ladies as we travel through our 50s, 60s and onwards.  Anxiety and stress often dominate our lives and having a home that is practical, aesthetically pleasing and therefore a relaxing haven is very important.  Endeavouring not to worry about everything is a real challenge but   being proactive when faced with life's problems is essential.  I love these quotes:

“Worry never robs tomorrow of it's sorrow, it only saps today of it's joy”  Leo Buscaglia

“A good way to rid one's self of a sense of discomfort is to do something.  That uneasy, dissatisfied feeling is an actual force vibrating out of order; it may be turned to practical account by giving proper expression to it's creative character.”

If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it:
“Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”

I do have a few on my phone, but that one I stand by...
I also learnt my granddaughter one, it's a quote from Winnie the Pooh,  it goes,.

Years ago I read a book about a 4 year old girl, unlikely to recover from cancer.  The Surgeon told her family:

"Forget about what we did yesterday.  That decision cannot be undone.  Make decisions today with the knowledge you hold in your hand.  Maybe that decision will give hope for tomorrow" or similar.  I think I have the book somewhere ........

Grannies told me: "A little of what you fancy does you good".

The comments in the thread Holidays 2018 about different problems and pressures each generation has with bringing up young children in a positive an constructive way. Made me think. A quotation from the very ancient philosopher Aristotle came to my mind.

'Give me a child until he is 7 and I will show you the man.'

In other words those early years are the foundation stones on which a young child's character is built. Maybe 7 is too young for todays lifestyle and this should be changed to 18. Everyone in the family put away the electrical devices collectively at the same time and talk to one another, or share a takeaway/meal  once a week without interference from the ipad and social media. Many people will ague that being naughty or running free is part of the memory making process. How about making family time a good memory? And for the young people to be remembered for being a credit to their family.
