Surgical menopause woes!
« on: May 26, 2018, 09:31:29 AM »

Morning everyone!

Anyone here dealt with surgical menopause?

I was already on HRT before my op due to severe peri symptoms but I'm super struggling with anxiety since my op 3 weeks ago.  :(

I've not changed my dose as was advised not to but I'm feeling horrendous!

Hi, Otes!

Oh yes indeed - there are a few of us around on here! I'm 3 years post BSO (hysterectomy previously at 36 - now 49).

Have you had a full TAH/BSO? And what type of HRT are you using at present? xxxx

I had a hysterectomy 4 years ago at age 40 and then my ovaries out 3 weeks ago due to extensive Endometriosis.

I'm using Estrodot 75mg patch, utrogeston daily and a smidge of Testogel. This has been great for the last 2 years. I'm hoping the anxiety will settle but it's been off the charts :'(

Lovely to see you back Tempest! How are you getting on?

Xx

Ah - just checked your previous posts and I see that you're an endo. lady. Are you still taking Utro.?

At the moment very newly post op., things will be fluctuating madly as your body/mind tries to cope with the loss of ovaries. It can be tricky to 'balance' your HRT at this stage - you'd think it would be a 'blank canvas' after everything is removed, wouldn't you? My advice would be to concentrate on recovering fully from the op., and try not to 'tweak' anything for a few weeks if you possibly can. It is likely you will need an increase in estrogen, but trying to hit a 'moving target' at the moment can be difficult!

Do you have a follow up appointment booked with anyone soon so that you can discuss your post op. HRT needs? xxxx

Yes I have to take the utrogeston every day, to be honest I like it as it helps me sleep and I've never had any side effects.

The consultant did warn me I'd be ‘up and down' I think I underestimated what the ‘down' meant!

I'm back for a follow up in August and fingers crossed I might of evened out. I've had so many surgeries the last 4 years maybe I'm just tired!

This op. is tough for sure, Otes! If you're really struggling, don't be afraid to give your Consultant's secretary a call ahead of your appointment in August - i'm sure they will want to advise or help. I still see mine every 3 months but he's taking a bit of a 'special interest' now because of my MS diagnosis.

Keeping everything steady right now is key, I think - but most importantly is minimising stress. Don't be afraid to say 'no' to things while you recover, and rest as much as you need. xxxx

Oh Tempest I didnt know you've been diagnosed with MS! Are you managing ok? No wonder you were feeling dreadful!

I'm going to give it another couple of weeks and if no better then I'll call. Thanks so much for the advice my fellow surgical menopause friend!

Thank you, Otes - and you're most very welcome! :)

I'm thinking it's time to revive the surgical menopause thread I started as there are a few of us now, and because we have unique challenges. We can all help and support each other! xxxx
