Got all stressed out this afternoon. Had an email to say our annual holiday insurance runs out soon which I knew.  Thought I would renew it as we go on hols in 2 weeks.

The girl started running through all the health questions which I answered truthfully. Hubby has high blood pressure and I have a hiatus hernia. So we take medication for those conditions. Then she said do either of you have any hospital appointments booked?  I said I have a dermatology appt booked for end of next month.  She then said they could not cover me due to this. I thought she meant just for that but it means completely!  I said that was the end of our conversation then.

I tried another company online and got to same question and ticked Yes and they wont cover me either.

I think we are both reasonably healthy and I was wondering what other people do.  Do they travel without insurance or tell lies and then its invalid anyway?

Yes it's a real challenge to find a reasonable costing policy now PF.
I use my EHC for Europe, just now anyway, but based on the quotes I get we will struggle to find adequate cover that we can afford now.

We get ours through our Nationwide Bank Account (you pay a monthly fee). You do have to declare things but nothing's been a problem so far.....no we don't lie - really not worth it - but can't see why dermatology counts as anything as surely this is minor - unless suspect moles?

Have you tried quotes from companies like staysure who specialise in this type of existing health cover,might be worth trying x

Be just done an annual European quote for couple with them declaring hbp for husband on two meds from gp for it and it was an extra tenner for the year.£120 total for both of us.

I've just taken a policy with them pennyfarthing and they gave me a discount code so I did it all online with them and I got the upper level of whole of Europe annual cover I disclosed his meds and hbp as I said and it was a total of £114. Which I'm more than happy with.xx

Its the fact that I have an appointment coming up that they won't cover me.  I find that most odd.

Staysure don't ask that kind of question,it's existing health issues we can't see into the future your hospital check up maybe fine that's a ridiculous criteria, it's a very simple process try a quote online to check it out. Good luck xx

Saga might be able to help too.

R U in this country, we never have insurance for travelling in the UK.  Abroad is more important as the worst, repatriating a body, can be traumatic, time consuming and virtually impossible without proper cover.   Insurance Companies are known to be picky!

Saga wont insure either if you have hospital appointments planned.  I have cancelled my hospital appointment and gone with another company. What a palarver.

I hate the entire insurance industry! Churchill charged me £62 for a change of address several years ago. L&G won't do home insurance if you own a bike - I told them that was ridiculous since tens of thousands of households own bikes! I had a spinal fusion which bumped up a critical illness premium despite the fact that the surgery was a success and fully healed.
The whole industry is immoral. I'm sure a lot of people must lie, or about 75% of the population would be excluded from taking travel insurance, given the prevalence of mental health issues, heart disease, diabetes, migraine, cancer, etc!

Many years ago we were told we were underinsured after an incident and I mean a major one,we thought it was a complement turned out it was an excuse to reduce our claim by 50 % thieving bar stewards is the term I think I'm looking for.xx

I was looking for travel insurance last week and was about to go with the company I've used for the 4 previous years when I saw a lot of negative reviews from people saying that they basically wriggle of paying up every time.
