hello perimenopause and CFS
« on: January 22, 2018, 11:00:41 PM »

HI just wanted to say hello to you all as I am new here. I have been having perimenopause symptoms for a while which are getting worse. I have CFS so it would be great to chat to others who have CFS on here too and get some advice on what has helped them . It is a battle dealing with both menopause symptoms and the CFS . I am wanting to go down the natural route to start with.
Look forward to chatting to you all X

Hi Ruby10  :)

It really must be a battle for you - hang in there!

I'm fairly sure others will come along to greet you, with or without CFS.

I'm well into my menopause now and using HRT. After seeing a Menopause Specialist in December, they are convinced some of my symptoms are not purely menopausal. They asked for me to have Vitamin D and B12 levels checked and to be referred to a CFS Specialist.
Having found me to be Vitamin D deficient, the plan is now to address the deficiency and any remaining symptoms may then require the CFS referral.
Use the search bar at the top to look around the site for the natural treatments you are interested in.

Hi and welcome Ruby10
Do tell us more about yrouself.  How old are you? What are your periods like? How long have you been getting meno symptoms? How long have you suffered with CFS?
There is nothing natural about the menopause - 100 years ago, if you survived beyond your 50s, you may well have been one of these lucky women who didn't suffer too badly with the menopause. WE are now expected to work into are late 60s adn often have elderly parent to care for and children who need more help than we did when young - we are the sandwich generating that have more stress than every before.

The HRT's today are largely ‘natural' (bio identical) - one should not see HRT as a drug but as a supplement to replace vital substances the body would produce if it could - using HRT is not going against nature.  Oestrogen has many benefits for health - heart, bones, bladder, skin, ENERGY, joints, mental wellbeing and the immune system all benefit from oestrogen, so when oestrogen declines then all these things decline with it.
HRT does not suit everyone and not everyone needs it - the progesterone part of HRT (needed if you still have a womb) can bring side effects - so it's about benefits versus side effects - unlike so many drugs, HRT has very few risks.  If you don't try it, you'll never know - so many women find they get their life back.  CFS is often greatly improved when HRT is used.  DG x

Hi Everyone
Thanks for the replies

I have just had it confirmed by the doctor that I am in perimenopause, I have low estrogen levels and my symptoms are all part of it the doctor says. It is a relief to get it confirmed as  I have been getting symptoms over the last year. I am 45 years old and I have had changes in periods, they have become shorter and I have been having  days of spotting. The big symptoms are the hot sweats I get them day and night which are driving me mad also heart palpitations which make me feel so ill at times. I have had disturbed sleep also, feeling overwhelmed over nothing and even more fatigue than usual. I have just started taking menopace and sage so hoping this will help me with my symptoms.

I have had CFS for 25 years and FM for 8 years, so its been a struggle and makes it hard with the peri symptoms on top of this.

I forgot to ask the doctor as i had a lot to take in, regarding do i need extra vit d  with having a low estrogen level. Does things like meneopace give you enough for this stage of life?  x

I would recommend hrt. Don't waste your money on supplements.

HI Dotty

The doctor said because i have health problems already and reacted badly to the pill in the past with heavy bleeding and terrible migraines etc, I might have bad side affects on HRT. Still want to try the natural supplements first and give it a go. I can always go on HRT at a later date.

The hormones in the contraceptive pill are very different to the ones in hrt. Try a low dose hrt to see what difference it makes .

Hi Ruby10 I am fairly new on here 😁 I am 45 been in peri for probably 2 years but now at the point of needing help and have a much needed appointment with the menopausal clinic next week, my drs are not really clued up. I also have CFS and wanted as much help. Fingers crossed very nervous not sure what to expect.
I to went the natural route taking Agnus castuswhich helped initially but now doesn't offer any relief. I never know which is causing which symptom CFS or peri.

HI Ali72

Yes it is hard to tell with the CFs as symptoms can overlap. I am just trying to find things to help at the moment with supplements for the peri symptoms.  I feel more exhausted which is caused by both so just got to take it steady .
Let us know how you get on at the menopause clinic , I am booked in for an appointment there  in a few months.  So it will be good to be able to talk more in depth with them rather than a 10 min appt at the doctors .

HRT is the natural treatment for oestrogen deficiency. Oestrogen deficiency too early could compromise your heart and bones for the long term. No alternative remedies or supplements will give the same benefits as HRT.
HRT is replacing what your body should be producing - it is the best ‘natural' treatment.
Do read up all the factual info on this site to get fully clued up so you can make informed decisions. DG x
