Hello and please help...
« on: January 12, 2018, 01:34:43 PM »

Hello I am 43 and 3 weeks into taking HRT for the first time. I am taking elleste duet and first couple of weeks lots of pimples and few big hormonal spots. Then that has died down and now have a migraine, some spotted bleeding, mood swings and sore breasts. I thought HRT would change my life and give me loads of energy! Will these symptoms calm down? Should I go to the Doctor and get a different HRT? When will I see any benefits?  :'( I had symptoms for 2 years and stopped my periods for 5 months, all was going well then lots of symptoms returned so hence HRT.

It's early days and your body needs time to get used to the hormones .

Are you on 1 mg or 2 mg?

Hi. I tried Ellestre Duet last March and felt rubbish on it for four weeks straight; anxiety increased hugely, insommnia, bad dreams. Phoned GP and she took me off it at once. My hormones were never tested and she thought as I was in peri my hormones may be too high rather than low, also that some people react badly to some types of HRT. Once off it I felt better, just back to anxious!  The whole area is hugely confusing as there are so many different types of HRT - I just took the one I was offered. I have just been on propranolol for 6 months for anxiety but now just started to come off that. I find I will feel very up and down month by month no matter what I do. I would say don't suffer in silence, at least put a call in to your GP and come up with a plan for you.

Hello Sophie

Roseneath is right its not one size fits all with hrt.  My friend Debs is on Elleste duet and it took about 6 weeks for it to settle down, she had spots and headaches(not as bad as migraine) she is fine on it now.  I was on Elleste solo did not feel well until I got on to 3mg and for 3 months life was great felt "me again" after 7 months of hell.  Sadly I started to get regular migraines and had to come off the tablets.  I started on oestrogel 2 pumps a day and life went back to the anxiety, low mood, sweats, being nervous at work and around people.  I had an estradiol test which was below 250 and was told by the menopause clinic to increase to 3 pumps a day that was last Friday and I am still waiting to get "me" back yet again.  I am coping with life, working, going to the gym, ceroc jiving, food shopping but its all a bit of an act nothing feels real anymore as i wait.......However if I look back to 6 months ago then I couldnt hardly leave the house without panic, tearful etc.  Things DO turn around it is just a balancing act getting the chemicals to do all the right things and never settling for anything less than the life you deserve.  Sometimes that does mean going back to the Dr and if they are not so clued up on menopause then get them to refer you to a specialist menopause clinic.

Take good care

Hi Sophie
I tried Elleste Duet 1mg for 8 weeks and hated it, bloating constipation, terrible mood swings, migraines amongst other things. I was advised by ladies on the forum to try Femoston as more women are able to tolerate it.  So far so good even though it's only been 6 weeks so if Elleste doesn't suit then try another.
