On HRT ovary removal.
« on: September 14, 2017, 03:20:53 PM »

He there,

I'm due to have my ovaries removed the beginning of October due to endometriosis. I've already had a hysterectomy 4 years ago and ovaries started to fail 2 years ago. I'm 43 and use 3 pumps Oestrogel, Utrogeston every day and a blob of testogel.

My question is shall I reduce the Oestrogel to 2 pumps now so I've got the option to use 4 pumps when I've no ovaries?! I'm worried that I can only up 1 pump from 3 to 4 after the op.

Hope that makes sense!!

Sorry I can't really help with this one - but why not reduce and try and see if you could manage on 2 pumps?  I think the limit of 4 pumps ( and 100 mcg patches) applies those women who are just naturally post-menopause. I am sure there are many women who have had total hysterectomy with ovary removal that have been prescribed higher doses of oestrogen - I am sure I have read on here. However I can see the practicalities of applying huge quantities of gel might be difficult. I am also sure I read that some women have used patches alongside gel when they have needed to increase.

Why not try to use a little less and see how you feel over the next few weeks?

I think I'll be fine with 2 pumps, I only took 3 as family history of early osteoporosis.

Thanks for the input anyway, I might go for patches after the op as may be easier than applying a ton of gel everyday!
