When someone whose work I have appreciated (e.g. a writer) dies, I'm sad that there will be no more new books from them, but otherwise, I don't see that their deaths are any more tragic than any other. I tend to be more upset by the deaths of ordinary people, especially who die very young, like the 10 year old girl who died of cardiac arrest on a plane flight at about the same time as Carrie Fisher. She only got a very brief mention in the news, but every time I heard someone say how tragic it was the Carrie Fisher died 'so young', I thought of that little girl who died so much younger.
