Jullmills, sorry to hear that you have such a useless doctor.  If you feel like you are flogging a dead horse and don't get anywhere, I would advise you to seek help privately.  Life's too short to hang around wasting time with that lot and despite the new guidelines, they can still refuse if they feel like it.  You could ask a private specialist to write to them with their prescription meaning you could get your medication on the NHS if that helps.

Smoking should not stop people from being about to get HRT, I know plenty of people who smoke and take it and I enjoy an occasional smoke myself.

I've got a 11.20 app today and taking hubble with me,  will update when I get back.  My gp had 2 options open to him right now:
Prescribe hrt or refer

I couldn't sleep until gone 3 this morning so am like the walking dead right now

Hope I come away with the hrt but if not then at least I got some light with the referral.
Thank you all once again,  this site is amazing x

The gp I seen was brilliant.  Is a firm believer in hrt.  Has prescribed me the combined patches for three months.  They are called evorel conti. I am thrilled.  Watch this space x

Great news Julmills! So pleased you have found a sympathetic GP who has finally prescribed you HRT!!

.....however, really according to usual protocols, you should not have been given Evorel conti straight away (unless doc had good reason for this) - because you have not been 12 months without a period and are not therefore yet post-menopause. You really should have been given Evorel sequi - which gives a withdrawal bleed every 4 weeks. It consist of 2 weeks oestrogen only followed by two weeks of Evorel conti.  If you start Evorel conti and are not post-menopause it can lead to irregular bleeding or spotting, and can also do so even if you are post-menopause - at least for the first 6 months. Did your doc say why you have been given these? Maybe because of your history of heavy bleeding? Maybe you are going to give them a try anyway..... do let us know!

I hope you sleep better tonight anyway :)

I am clueless when it comes to all this.  The gp I seen today deals with women's stuff.  He didn't say why he prescribed this particular brand.  Asked me if I had ever suffered with thrombosis or breast cancer,  both are negative so I have 3 months supply then I am to go back for review.  I did score severely depressed on the test he gave too x

Julmills, glad you found a doctor who was prepared to help you.  Good luck with the HRT and let us know how you get on.
