Are hormone level blood tests reliable?
« on: October 22, 2018, 05:58:14 PM »

Hi all
I'm 42 and have had Peri symptoms for about 4 years which have been awful for nearly a year now. I've had blood tests to see what my levels are a few times and thwy always come back normal, making me feel like a fraud. Is this normal for early stage Peri? I'm at my wits end, I'm convinced all my symptoms (palpitations, insomnia, headaches) are hormonal. My periods have just started being naughty too, with longer, heavier periods and extra ones too.

My Gynae won't do blood tests as they are reliably un-reliable!  Maybe make a note of symptoms/food/mood to chart how you are?  Hormones alter all the while so getting a 'true' reading is a bit hit and miss.

How are your periods?  My periods came and went for several years then disappeared completely.  The Change does what it says on the tin  ::).

Read the treatment section above, make notes!

Mummytron - it could well be very early peri meno. Someone did once tell me that there can be a ‘Shift' in our hormones in our early 40s - not true peri meno but the body definitely getting that way.
Blood tests aren't reliable so if you develop flushes and your periods become erratic then it's more like peri.
There is a good article on this site which explains what happens during peri meno, so do search for this. It's called ‘the perils of peri menopause'
