Water infection
« on: December 29, 2015, 08:24:32 PM »

Thought I was getting cystitis yesterday so popped to the chemist for sachets.  Feeling worse this morning, so managed a phone consultation with doc this afternoon as started feeling yuk, with stomach and back pain.  He said it was classic symptoms, said he would give me a prescription for AB's.  I'm drinking plenty water, and peeing more now, but feel sick and hot and cold. I have now taken two of the AB's and am getting palpitations.  Cue, health anxiety !  Can anyone tell me, if this is due to the tablets or the infection itself? And also, can I take paracetamol along with nitrofurantoin?  I feel awful, and we're due to head away for New Year tomorrow. I'm so worried that my condition will worsen when away, and I'm now panicking about kidney failure, and all sorts.

Don't panic. The back pain does sound like an infection, keep taking the full course of Nitrofurantoin, along with plenty of fluids (water type things). Re taking paracetamol with NF, I think it's fine, but be careful not to exceed the maximum dose for paracetamol. I would imagine the palpitations are more anxiety than anything else but if they persist get them checked out. Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks Limpy.  Well just when I thought I couldn't feel any worse, I now have bad diarrea ! Obviously a side effect of the Nitrofurantoin.  Don't think we'll be getting away at this rate.  :'(

Bicarb of soda in boiled, cooled water?

Take a sample to the GP for it to be sent away - a bug can only be diagnosed by being 'grown'.

Ask for vaginal atrophy treatment too!

Thanks everyone, didn't have a good night, and have really sore tongue, and like a sort of burning in feet and hands. Never rains but in pours.

Yes, thank you.  Had an appointment with nurse this week, and she has sent off a water sample to make sure nothing still lurking, but definitely on the mend!

That's good.  Have you read our various threads on Vaginal Trophy ?  maybe if you had treatment it would stop any future urine 'infections' .
