Hot flushes night sweats
« on: October 15, 2015, 08:22:29 PM »

Hi I've been quiet lately I suppose it's because ive learned to cope to a certain extent... I don't sleep all night as I wake I'm with sweat pouring down me and this makes me feel anxious as I hate the feeling of being overheated, i still get health anxiety and want to
Start some form of excercise again to tone up/loose weight, but im scared of excercise now what if I collapse and that's it I'm 54! But also the last two days I have had the most horrendous flush only once a day but I felt so got if was horrible my work colleague said what's happened to you I
Must have been bright red I could feel if and felt scared, I don't know if stress is contributing as work is so busy, can anybody relate?xx

Just wanted to say sorry to hear you are still feeling rough. Yes execrise would be a good thing! You are very young not to be active in some way. Perhpas you would consider giving HRT another try to ehlp you sleep?

I agree with Hurdity - even a half hour walk a day would be helpful. This should be about two miles and you can build up from there.

As for the horrible hot feeling - yes this, in my experience, is a daytime flush/sweat. Some women (such as me!) get them regularly - say every half hour or so - throughout the day and night. They can make you feel quite ill before you realise what they are. Before you begin to feel hot you various sensations can assail the body.  Heart rate can increase, a feeling of doom and tiredness comes out of  nowhere, then a queasy feeling in your tummy before the heat starts to build. Mine used to last around four minutes and, in the end, they were happening every twenty minutes. I could set my clock by them and learnt to go into the supermarket for the weekly food shop just after one hit, race around and be at the frozen food section when the next one hit. Then it was a race to get through the checkout before the next one. This, and the fact that I was finding it increasingly difficult to do my job,  is what drove me to start HRT and the only thing I was annoyed about was that it had taken me so long to actually  make that decision. My life improved immeasurably after that.

When I first tried to do without HRT, I was a bit scared that I might collapse. However, I knew I had to push myself to walk the mile to local supermarket on a near daily basis. On a good day I managed the walk back too, but if not I jumped on a bus back.

Really strong flushes can be quite overwhelming!  I have hand held fans everywhere these days as I'm now off HRT. It's a bit like Fight or Flight. For instance today was at a wedding. Sat at end of a row, in case I had overwhelming flush & needed to escape. Anxiety doesn't help. I did flush, but managed to keep it at bay with my fan.

HRT really is best thing to keep the flushes at bay.

Hi Ladies, nice to hear from you all again, I actually went for a two mile walk today, using headphones which stopped me thinking about being out of breath/fainting etc, felt tired and I did stop to pop in the shop but all in all it was ok, as for the flushes, I really don't want to start hrt again as I didn't seem to find one that suited me, and I tried a few!, but I agree for flushes and night sweats as least it was brilliant. The joys of meno xx

My nighttime flushes have come back , am ok if I dont  get too hot but once that happens seem unable to regulate myself.  Suppose my oestrogen levels are falling again , I do have a 100 patch which I cut down but last time i upped the dose it didnt help - hey ho, I do find if I am anxious it does bring them on , dont suffer in day at all .  Before HRT it was horrendous all day long , hot then cold and couldnt stop thinking about it.

I sympathise karenja. I'm lucky I don't work, so take my hat off to those of you who do. After a bad few night's sleep, waking heaps with flushes, last night I resorted to changing to a 1.5 tog duvet with an extra lightweight cover just in case I need it. Took a while to nod off due to anxiety, but had better sleep.  Only one night, but hope it continues.

Flushes during the night are so draining. Hope you find something which helps.

Hi Karenja
sorry to her your having a bad time again, me too! I had been doing great and wasn't on here for a while but popped in a few weeks ago just to catch up. I must have been feeling uneasy but didn't realise it. I was good for a while i think because i was on 2/10 femoston. Anyway i stopped smoking in June (go me haven't had one at all) and thought i would try cutting my HRT to 1/10 but its having its effects now, anxiety and sweats starting up in the past week, feeling i cant breath if i do to much, waking up shaking during the night it goes on....and with full time work as well its just so draining, even the darks nights are putting a dampener on the moods.  I came to the conclusion this morning I need to go back to my 2/10 dose. i have 5 days days left in my 1/10 pack but im thinking just change over now. Any input from anyone would be great.
Chin up Karenja

Hey Millykin, really sorry to hear things rent great at present, but it is lovely to hear from you. You were so supportive and helpful when I joined this site and I've often wondered how you are doing.

Am I right in thinking you were like me in that you preferred the time you were on progesterone as well as estrogen? If so, you could possibly consider Qlaira?  It has exactly the same estrogen as Femeston 2/10, apart from two days of 1 mg and two days of 3mg. The difference is it has more days with progesterone and so therefore acts as a contraceptive too. It's one of the modern, better tolerated progesterones.

This for me was a life changer - after 3 or 4 months, I'd stopped getting headaches (which I had with lower dose patches)and felt so much more relaxed. Stayed on it for 8 months and have only changed to a conventional pill as I was getting spotting in the middle of the month. I know everyone is different, but if you wanted something that does not have a sudden dip of progesterone, I'd recommend it.

All the best, whatever you decide B x

I find if I get hot in the night it takes ages for my body to cool down and then you end up being completely awake, if I manage to stay comfortable I am fine and sleep well. If I awake cool I just get a hot water bottle and then Im fine. Certainly something wrong with the control button .

Hi Briony

That was a very helpful post you wrote about Qlaira you have certainly given me something to look into and consider especially as it acts as a contraceptive too. its always a good thing to hear how other people have got on with different things. Yes i was same as you with progesterone. I am good on femeston 2/10 so ill go back up to that and read up on more of your posts about Qlaira. Good to hear you are doing well.
