Thanks CLKD, drinking barley water and plain water as much as I can

Katejo, assuming this was for Cystitis did you get another prescription?

Hi HB, feeling much better this evening thank you.
My tummy is really bloated though and I have low down heavy pressure feeling like my womb is about to drop out (sorry for tmi) I am putting it down to the abnormal amount I am drinking? I am not eating much. I am in and out of the loo much more than normal, which can only be a good thing I guess.

Oh the joys of being a woman!

Try sitting on the loo and drinking - that way the bladder and bowel are relaxed = less pressure.  Trouble is, I then get pins and needles in the feet  ;D   :P ……. I don't know what's in Barley Water but it supposedly works, my Practice recommend it as a first defence ……… trouble is I can't stand the taste   :-X

Okay, you lost me....not sure I should ask  ;) but how does sitting on the loo give you pins and needles in your feet?  ;D How long are you there for?

Forgive me, I do appreciate your help, it just tickled me

I love barley water so I am happy to drink it. I definitely don't like the sachets the chemist gave me :sick02:  but they are all finished now, thank goodness.

Glad I gave you a giggle.  It depends too on how low the toilet is situated.  But sitting with thighs against a hard service = pins and needles in the feet  ;) - and if I have a Very Good Book or difficult Xword puzzle book ……..  :whist:

How have symptoms been over-night?

Mine was a UTI infection rather than cystitis. I tend to get a dull ache and feeling of irritation inside  (plus needing the loo frequently). I don't get the burning of cystitis. I was given a 2nd antibiotic Cephalexin. It made me feel really ill for a couple of days. As it happen I am about to go to an NHS drop in centre to try and see a doctor. I think I might have a similar infection again now but I am not sure. I am also going to ask if it might be a vaginal irritation. I always get these things just before a holiday.....!

Cystitis comes under the umbrella term of UTI katejo. Cystitis affects the bladder and urethritis affects the urethra. These two are lower UTI's and ones affecting further up the urinary tract such as the kidneys are upper UTI's. Very confusing. Lower ones are less dangerous than upper ones. I certainly don't want another upper one. It took me months to feel really better again.  They don't prescribe cephalexin here now due to it's association with C.Dif in our local area. I usually end up on Ciprofloxacillin. I hope you get something sorted.

One thing - as we get older, apparently, we don't always get any burning sensation even when it is a lower UTI.

I didn't have the burning in recent years.  There was a nip as the bladder shut off after passing urine which made me go 'ouch'  >:(

Did you see anyone Katejo ?

Wish I hadn't of had the burning! It was truly horrible :o

I think it has finally cleared up. Still got a bloated tum, but I think that may be the antibiotics giving me constipation! ::)

I agree the burning is horrible although it would have alerted me to an infection which then travelled further up. That's how I discovered that burning isn't always present. Think of it as an unpleasant early warning system!
