Changed to Livial Tibolone
« on: June 15, 2015, 09:18:54 AM »

I'm 44, was found to be in menopause so was put on Duet Elleste 2mg by GP. Actually helped symptoms, the best was that my horrendous migraines that I've suffered every 12 days for the past 8 years lessened considerably to minor headache. Great, I thought. But then, left side pain started like endo pain I had 12 years ago which resulted in surgery to remove tissue.

Changed to Sandrena 1mg with Utrogestan but this didn't help and my migraines came back. Plucked up courage to start the Livial Tibolone 2.5mg 2 days ago. Was very nervous about it as have read lots of negative stuff. Am in bed with flu and migraine but hoping that's all it is. Feel appalling, but suppose I should stick with it for a few months to see if it suits me.

Anyway, it's great to have this forum to talk. I've felt so alone and like I'm going mad for the past 7 years.

hi

I have also just changed but to estradot and utrogestan and not as smooth as I would like. I was on femosten and never had a problem with that from day 1. Like you I guess you have to stick with it for a while to see if it suits or not. If only it was predictable life would be much easier.

Hope it works out okay for you.

Hi Katykins

Sorry to read that you're feeling so unwell with a triple whammy of new HRT, flu and migraine - just one of those is enough to cope with.

I've never tried Tibolone, so can't comment I'm afraid - hopefully somebody will be along who uses it.

I had hideous migraines in my youth, which returned with a horrid vengeance when my periods stopped at 44 - on the upside, with the passing of time (I'm nearly 53) they have lessened somewhat.  Battling meno plus added complication of migraine is not easy.

On the gel my migraines worsened too.  The meno clinic advised that the patch would be better for consistency as for some women the gel can give too many peaks and troughs.

I am thinking that seeing as you're having an early-ish meno and have had endo plus migraines, maybe you could ask GP for a referral to a meno clinic.  Often specialist treatment is necessary when other health issues are involved eg. migraine - my GP (at the time) admitted that the advice/care I needed was beyond her remit.

As we know, it's all trial and error and we're all so different - hope you settle on the Tibolone.  If not, maybe try the patch/Utrogestan, if you haven't already?

Have you tried magnesium supplements, I find it does help relieve/lessen the migraines.  I also use the spray as well on the neck knots.

Take it easy, hope you start to feel better soon.

Sorry to butt in. Night_Owl, you mention a spray to help migraines, what is that please? My 12 year old son suffers with tension shoulder migraines, thought it might help him. Thanks.

Grumpymum, the spray is Magnesium Oil by Better You.  I got it from Amazon.  As mentioned on some of the low one star feedbacks on Amazon, it does make the skin feel sticky/stingy - I find it does help a bit - but I'll use anything when I'm in the grip of a bad migraine. Also I use essential oils in a small amount of carrier oil - peppermint - and lavender - separately on the neck/shoulders.  They help a bit too, particularly the peppermint.  Okay if your son can tolerate the strong peppermint smell when/if feeling nauseous.

The magnesium tablets are helpful too - apparently Magnesium Taurate is best in terms of absorption.  Guess effectiveness depends on the individual though.  Still all worth a try.

Shoulder roll exercises to reduce the tension may help too - will try and dig out the youtube tutorial.

Thanks Night_Owl. He has seen an NHS physio who gave him lots of exercises for his tense shoulder but getting a 12 year old boy to do them proves rather difficult!! Mint essential oil sounds good, he does get sick with it. I think I might try him on the magnesium too. Bit off topic of menopause though!!

Hi, hope it works for you, I went on livial in March and had horrendous side effects so came off. Now on no HRT and not sure what to do, been on estradot and utrogestan but this combo made fibroids grow and I had continuous bleeding.

Hi Libralady,

What sort of side effects did you get from the livial tibolone??? I'm on day 3 and to be honest I'm a horrible hypochondriac at the best of times so tried not to read too much of the leaflet of side effects as I can start to feel ill by looking at them.....

Hi Katykins,

Maybe I shouldn't tell you!! I think my body just not good at accepting medications .......well my personality changed nearly overnight. From being very laid back, pleasant person I was aggressive and angry all the time. Hubby noticed right away, at times I knew I was saying/doing things but couldn't stop myself. I had strange sensation in my head, not headache as such but like my head was going to burst open. My blood pressure shot up, I do take tablets for high blood pressure and well controlled but livial sent my blood pressure way up. I also gained weight. After stopping the aggression went within a few days, my weight dropped without me doing anything, no strange sensations in head and my blood pressure came down but my doctor dud increase my blood pressure medication. I think it was due to fact that livial is a steroid.
Now on no HRT but take vagifem but things down there not good so will have to go back and see GP.
Hope all goes well for you.
