We were away last week Monday - Friday.
Left early on Monday and drove down to Duxford (from Leeds) - went and grinned like loons at all the wonderful, gorgeous aircraft there (well - DD and I did ... DH is interested, but not fascinated like us!)! Also, both Lady P and I have Douglas Bader as one of our heros (we know he wasn't perfect by any means, but still an inspiration in lots of ways) and to wander round the actual hangers and air-field from where he flew never fails to thrill.
Then drove on to Folkstone for an overnight - Shuttle on Tuesday morning to France. 3.5 hour delay due to 'issues' at the French side (!!) - but Eurotunnel's information in times of disruption is USELESS so we had no idea how long we would be delayed by .... their website was still advising of half-hour delays on the terminal when we had been sat in queue on the motorway, a mile from the terminal, with the engine off for an hour! We found out what was actually happening from the BBC news on the radio! Had we known the extent of the delay, we'd have gone for a ferry (I don't like ferries, hence the Shuttle - which I DO like - but it was flat calm, so it would have been fine). Finally got to France and drove 3.5 hours to Disneyland - yay!!
Came home on Friday - left Disneyland at 2.30pm French-time, and arrived home at 11.30pm our time (France is an hour in front) - so 10 hour journey! Hubby drove all the way with only a break for the Shuttle - he's a hero (I'd have driven once we were back in the UK, but he was quite happy).
It was a good holiday - probably our last as a family (DD is 23 and has now finished Uni) - but I'm now back at work and fed-up of the commute (done it once - this morning) and the whinging already!!!
