What a lovely thing to do Ju Ju.

When we were newly married and totally hard up I knitted every one scarves. I love a hand made gift, the effort and the thought is so very much more.

I've heard that story before. However there are many conflicting theories on the actual date.

They want you to buy, buy, buy CLKD.

Yep - but what they don't realise, is that I've done our shopping by mid-January  ;)

Went into Costas this morning. They were playing Christmas music and an elf served us!  Whaat? - too early ... or maybe too late? I was listening to a talk on the net the other day where they were saying no way would shepherds have been abiding in the fields in Israel in December as its far too cold -  and that Jesus birth is likely to have been in late September. So what's it all about Alfie? Just another big commercialised hoo haa. At least its a pleasant one though, not like the vile Halloween nonsense.

It was easier to adapt a Pagan festival date for our Christmas I believe? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/special_report/for_christmas/_new_year/pagan_christmas/37276.stm

The other day someone was telling me that they'd gone into Costa Coffee a year ago - between Halloween and Guy Fawkes - and heard Christmas music. When he asked why, they said "It's cos we're retail" (which, of course, makes no sense at all - it's not like they were selling christmas stuff). Anyway, he had a rant and told them off, and they obligingly changed the music (although probably only until he left!).

Later on he realised just how much of a grumpy old man he'd become, and how much he was enjoying it!

I just get so sad and frustrated about the seemingly empty celebrations around in some quarters, on TV, in adverts, in shops far too early................Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ.  Sorry if that's the wrong thing to say on MM.   It's just the most wonderful Truth.   We need hope in this sorry world.  Don't we?

Yes totally agree Hb :)

What out me off present buying was this - I tend to buy for aunties as they buy for us.  T be honest and I know a gift is a gift,  but I think they were re-gifts lol as some of the gifts we had were tack.  But I couldn't go down that road and bought quality gifts for the 3 aunties in question ( these aunties are of similar age to me so not little old dears ) .  Anyway my husband who is an electrician did some work for one of them earlier in the year and had to lift some floorboards upstairs.  In one bedroom there were piles of presents not even opened - he spotted a few from us.  So I'm not sure what to do this year.  The auntie in question has everything she could need and obviously doesn't even open her Christmas presents .  That made me rather sad :(

Hope is good however it comes.
Just wish it didn't involve religion - of any type.

My eldest granddaughter has already been told that phone calls will be made to the man in the red suit if she doesn't behave. However, does she understand the true meaning of Christmas? I doubt it. Did I at her age? In all honesty, probably not. Despite going to church every Sunday morning and Sunday School every Sunday afternoon.  I'm sure she will understand in a few years time when she realises who Santa really is.  No matter how much we tell children not to be greedy at this time of year, they will always want more.

My two used to feel hard done by. Both happy with their lot on the 25th until they compared notes when school went back. My daughter got a Sony personal CD player one year, most of her friends got TVs & computers. Sorry for rant.
