Anxiety-forgetfulness-anxiety vicious circle
« on: August 04, 2014, 08:43:53 PM »

Hi
Has anyone experienced this sort of thing?  I can get really anxious about having to do something vital, then start to forget what it was, then get anxious about forgetting to do this vital thing, then end up writing myself notes that I leave on the breakfast table so that I jolly well DO do whatever it was, when I have to - and then hoping I remember to see it on the breakfast table!   It's like a dog chasing its tail and it wears me out.
Familiar, anyone?

Yep.  A couple of years ago I noticed that I was stressing then would forget the issue ………  :-\ …… we have a his/hers calendar and I too make notes to myself.  Then I would forget the note or remember an issue but forget by the time I had found paper and pen.  >:(

I'm like that with the computer: go to it for a specific then forget completely   :(

Yep, been there. I would set alarm on my mobile to remind me to remember.  ;D

If I write things down they are committed to memory.....I have always been like that even at school.
It's the daft things I do that worries me. Things in the wrong places. Using salt instead of sugar.

My memory is bad for short term stuff. Did I turn the cooker/central heating off kind of thing. Conversations and who did what and when are good.

Funny how we are all different.

I now watch my mother at a few weeks off of 92,little goes in and sticks. Her understanding of things is so poor. Five years ago she was still as sharp as a tack. I'm sure a doctor would say dementia......I think it's just extreme age and like the rest of her body her brain is wearing out.

Sparkle what you said about the panic setting in when someone says 'do you remember' made me laugh  ;D. My kids will often recall something with 'Mum, do you remember...' and I stand there trying to rack my brains and nope I usually don't remember! Scary when it happens but reassuring to know that you're not the only one.

I've never had good recall.  I think being a prem-baby …….. also living in a dysfunctional household I learnt to keep my head down  :-\

My family were volatile so it was easier to keep tucked away.  There wasn't much communication, it was 'do that, go there, keep quiet' so I learned early on to 'keep quiet'.  I have never been good at remembering, once I've done a task that's it, I'm onto the next ….. as for remembering names, well that's become harder the older I get.

I was good at the car registration and telephone numbers though ………. I knew all the family 1s by heart, I think in case I needed to flee even though the family lived miles away.

Nowadays, things I'm told go straight over my head and away  :-\ and it looks as if I don't care about friends ….. especially if it's in an e-mail, I know I can return to read it but often don't and then think 'oh I should have remembered, you told me that'  :(

I can relate to this but I also tend to have to try and 'think' before I speak because I come out with the wrong word, e.g April when I meant August! Keep trying to reassure myself that it is due to perimeno but get quite anxious which then makes it worse........ Oh the joys :(

If I think before I speak the whole subject disappears!
