« on: September 24, 2013, 11:22:09 AM »

Ladies what are your opinions on the various face creams? Have run out of brand I have been using ( I switch around quite a bit) and as will be in duty free this week want to pick up something middle of range.   :D

I love Lis Earle products. I have very dry skin liable to react to many products. When I tried the dry/sensitive moisturiser and the cleanser, my skin seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. I quite liked Vichy products as well.

Liz Earle was bought out by Avon a few years ago.

Clarins is quite nice, though it was bought for me, so haven't a clue how much it costs.

Neostrata, I love the range, they are excellent but pricey, fortunately one uses so little, they last a long time.

I like Clarins face cream (quite pricey but lovely) but I was on a bit of an economy drive a while back and I bought some anti-wrinkle  ;) cream in Aldi and it is wonderful.  It was only 3 or 4 quid and has lasted for ages.  It's in a black tube.

I'm like you winterose.
I tend to switch around a bit.
The longest one I have stayed with is Avon ultimate.
I was very pleased with it.
Bought it when it was on offer.
I think I used 2 jars and then decided I'd try another one.  :-\ ::)
I went to Boots and the girl advised me  to try No7 protect & perfect intense night cream.
Too early to say if it's any good but it is nice to use.
She said I could take it back if I didn't get on with it.
Thinking about it,when I was using the avon a friend,who I hadn't seen for sometime,commented that I looked younger.
So why didn't I stick with it? :-\

I've tried lots of face creams but never pay much for them as I think cheaper ones are as good as expensive ones. I think the important thing is just to use one regularly.

Aldi's range is very good and well priced. I like superdrug's own creams as well. At the moment I am using St Ives timeless skin collagen elastin moisturiser. Its a huge 283g pot that cost about £6!

I am on Garnier at the moment and really like it.

I think the thing about any face cream is that they can only keep the skin supple and nothing else. They are not allowed to produce anything for general sale that goes any deeper than the top layer of skin. If it goes deeper then it's prescription strength.

The higher the price then the better it's supposed to work and that's rubbish. A lot is down to genetics and skin type, and also sun exposure and I suppose luck. If your mother had good skin then the chances are you will too.

Keep slapping it on though but it does not matter if it's Astral or Chanel.

HB the Neostrata creams are developed by a dermatologist and are transdermal, dermaceutical products, thus, they work at a cellular level in the skin.

Dermaceutical products are more beneficial as they contain higher therapeutic doses of all nutrients and peptides required for skin rejuvenation.  Dermaceuticals are developed with the skills and quality control of pharmaceutical science.  Unlike cosmetic skincare, dermaceuticals don't merely mask symptoms.  Rather, they treat the underlying causes of skin aging, etc.

I find that they really do work and not just by moisturising but by plumping and firming and repairing as well :)

Sorry but studies have shown that skin creams do not penetrate the skin. The skin is there to protect us and nothing that is sold cosmetically will get through the outer layer of skin.

Manufacturers make all sorts of claims but if you read the research it is very clear that nothing gets through the outer layer. It would be great if it was true but they are simply not allowed.
The molecules in cosmetic skin creams are too large to penetrate the transdermal layer. They fill in creases and smooth until you wash them off. And that is it.
It would seem that there is research that is on going to develop a collagen cream that could penetrate a little deaper.
The University of Bath has done extensive studies on whether beauty products live up to what they claim. Unfortunately not.
