Weird reaction to chillies
« on: August 05, 2013, 05:47:55 PM »

Anyone ever heard of this one? Recently when cooking with chillies, fresh or out a jar, brings on asthma symptoms. Can't breath for coughing.  I can eat, but having to cook with them is horrendous. Then the sneezing starts. I only added a small amount tonight and ended up a spluttering wreck. Never used to bother me.

I think I would avoid cooking with them CG. You have developed a sensitivity it would seem and I would not take any chances.

My daughter was like this with kiwi fruit. It started with a mild tingling and has progressed to swollen lips and tongue. She now avoids them like the plague.

Don't take any chances please.

Oh just a thought how about dried chillies....you might not have the same reaction.

Dried might work, thanks. Weird how I can eat things cooked with chillies, but can no longer be in the kitchen when cooking them. Still can't walk in kitchen just now without having a coughing fit. Opened window and put on extractor too, but whatever it is, it's lingering. Honestly what a carry on.

Sure you know that allergies to kiwi or banana can indicate latex allergies.

Actually I didn't know that.

She does not eat bananas but the kiwi thing has increased as she has got older.
I will file that one away thanks.

My mouth and lips are tingling at the very thought!  Chillies have weird chemicals in them, that's what makes them hot/tter  ::)
