Symptoms from stopping Utrogestan phase!
« on: July 24, 2013, 12:45:26 PM »

Oh dear...... just when I thought things were improving.  I'm on my second day after finishing the Day 15-26 Utrogestan phase and I feel very anxious....  Wondering now if this is the sudden drop in Progesterone.... I've got my bleed, so that's happened at the right time, but I've got a racing heartbeat and "anxious" feeling.  Heard a bit of neighbour's music earlier and almost set me into a panic attack.

Any thoughts?

I am a couple of days behind you.....take my last one tonight. I have felt much more settled on this part of my cycle than with the oestrogen alone.

I was thinking that if my anxiety levels go up again then I might consider a conti regime.

Hope you settle soon. It's such an up and down business this meno thing.

Keep posting and we can compare notes.

Exactly, Honeyb!  I have felt really good on the Utrogestan, so good, in fact, that I'm struggling now I'm not on that phase!  Hope it settles..... I've been reading some of Hurdity's old posts and it seems it could be the sudden drop in Progesterone..........

Gawd, all these problems make me feel like stopping all the HRT and seeing if I can ride it out........ :(

Hi Liz

This is interesting.
I was like that last month as I came off them I remember.  :( (my first cycle using Utrogestan)
I was like it for a few days after I stopped, even though I felt fine on them.

My last one is today, so I will report how I feel after stopping them.
However, I am away from tomorrow until Monday at a gig and then a music festival. I hope I don't go downhill or it will spoil it  :(

My gynae specialist was originally trying to make me take continuous utrogestan, so maybe that might be an option for you if it becomes troublesome each month?
I think I read on here that the continuous utrogestan dose is 100mg as opposed to the 200mg that you take on a cycle (I might be wrong there though...Hurdity???  :))
I insisted on taking it for only 12 days because I thought I might be affected badly by the prog due to difficulties (!!!!!! an understatement!  ;D)  on other, synthetic, progesterones.

if it continues to make me feel down coming off it I might try continuous as I feel A-OK right now!
(but of course halving the dose might make a difference too.....  ???)

Well I am going to give it three months and see how it goes. Don't give in too soon.
I have been on HRT for four years now but this is a new regime for me.

Can I ask, did you have much cramping in the last few days of the utrogestan and is your bleed heavy. I feel as if I am going to have a fun time when my bleed starts.

Honeyb - Yes I'm going to try and ride it out for the 3 months.  Hopefully this will pass and is just the sudden drop in Progesterone......

I am having quite a heavy bleed, actually and I did have some cramping yesterday, but this cycle I've gone over 5 weeks, so I guess more to come out.

Please keep in touch and let me know how you're getting on. x

HoneyB

from my perspective about bleeding -

last month I started the utrogestan and 3 days into it I started a bleed. Not particularly heavy.
This month I started the utrogestan and 8 days into it I started a bleed, again, not particularly heavy.

I have an apt with my specialist on 1st August and will discuss the bleeding happening earlier than expected.
I have read on google that this sometimes happens so is quite common.
Also I'm 49 and not sure how often my own cycle will be kicking in and messing up levels.

Hope that info  is of some use to you xx

I've also just realised my patch is overdue - should have changed the Estradot almost 2 days ago.  Got mixed up, as I was on FemSeven before, which didn't get changed for a week.  Wonder if this has caused this anxiety?? Frightening, if it has.... to be so dependent on HRT, I mean!

Hi Liz

I've commented on your other thread re the progesterone drop. Yes that is more likely than the decline in oestrogen - it shouldn't really cause sudden symptoms that quickly re forgetting to change the oestrogen patch. Patches are designed to give a pretty consistent dose of estradiol and as long as they don't come unstuck there is a gradual decline in amount released over the few days after sticking on. It is not as if it suddenly stops releasing oestrogen after 3-4 days - there is quite a big margin from what I remember reading the published papers.

Clovie - yes 100 mg on a continuous dose. Vaginally you could probably get away with less although not licensed and it doesn't come in lower doses unfortunately.

Do not fret Liz - it is not worth stopping HRT if the withdrawal symptoms only last a couple of days, as long as you can cope! Now I am post-meno that's why I went onto a longer cycle because I used to get migraines every withdrawal but don't seem to so much now. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

I've actually stopped the HRT for now - going to see how I do without it.  I've never had a definite diagnosis of being menopausal (being 45).  A lot of my symptoms could have been caused by bereavement as they all started just after I lost my Dad.  My noise intolerance has settled down - I've been listening to music again this past week and I feel much more calm, so all going well at the moment.

Hope it all goes well for you Liz.

I have felt terrible for days now because of this very heavy bleed. My anxiety is returning with a vengeance.
I now have a prescription for utrogestan 100 which I am going to try. I felt so much calmer when on the utrogestan so perhaps this will be the answer.

Hope it goes well for you too, HoneyB.  I've been feeling much less anxious actually, since I've been off the HRT.  The progesterone withdrawal made me feel awful, so I decided to try without the hormones for a while.  Good luck with your Utro prescription. x
