That's OK. There may be a knitting group locally too or perhaps start one in your Library ......... both Mums knittied, so did the Grannies on both sides of our family but me .......... <shrug> - knit 1, pearl 1, drop one
If you enjoy making the blanket you may find that your local Pre baby Unit is keen to have knitted blankets donated, or small caps etc.. That may be another link to finding wool or ask on Freecycle/freegle?
