Female GP's where are they all?
« on: May 05, 2013, 12:02:29 PM »

Hi all, rang the surgery to book a routine appointment, nothing available with the only female gp for the whole of this month.  In my area very few female GP's at all. How is it where you are?

Half and half at my surgery, though at one point more female GPs than male. Most of the females are only part time.

We have a few.  One left after having her baby and didn't return, she was really helpful over the years  ::).

There's two holding one full time position between them.
They are both really good.

There have also been a couple of nice, competent, female trainee GPs on temporary (6 or 12 month) attachments.

We've got six in our practice - some are good and some are really unsympathetic.

We have three. One who I don't like as she is very brisk. One who looks like she needs a good wash and one who I visit as she is lovely but quite young.

Bit of a mix really.

Our surgery is half and half but tbh I prefer a man. I don't find our female Dr very sympathetic. She makes me feel as if I'm wasting her time whenever I go in, which isn't often :(

There are 4 doctors at my surgery, only one is female and she is useless.  I know it's wrong of me but I am secretly hoping she has a tough time with the menopause perhaps then she will change her tune!

Ours are great!
A man who has just retired has been replaced by a woman so that's good.
One woman is my age and has been the specialist gynae for years - but only works 2 days/afternoons per week so is booked up for 6 weeks in advance. The new female GP is also excellent and gives me what I want re HRT although hadn't heard of Utrogestan....
There seem to be more female GPs than when we first moved here years ago - but yes they all work part-time (for obvious reasons!).
sweatybet I sympathise - are you waiting for yours for your appt? There also could be a cancellation so maybe worth ringing every couple of days?

Our practice has a few appointments that are available on the day. You have to call at 8:30am but you do get seen and usually get to choose the GP that you want to see.

I don't understand why some GPs are so ignorant about menopause and the related problems. You would think that as all women go through it it would be a priority to have someone who was an expert.

I think most of us have been let down by the response that we get.

There is the blank look and then the offer of something that's not suitable.

I have a drawer full of unused patches that have been given by mistake. We don't pay in Scotland but what a waste.
