My Spring garden looks lovely    and I have this morning decided that this is what our garden is good at.  Roses don't 'do' well here, sadly.  I am filling the borders with more shrubs ...... have 2 to move from front to back as they have become overwhelmed by lemon balm  so failed to thrive.  The earth however is sodden  , sticky and unsafe to walk on.  However ........ 

I have 1 pair of very old jeans that will never see the washing machine again, they are on the kitchen floor tucked under a radiator.  When I feel the 'needs must' to get into the plot, I don those and off I goes.  Our hellebores are spreading, the winter flowering honeysuckle and clematis 'freckles' are attracting the odd honey bee

I now have 3 more hebes in the front border: removed two prunus from there and dug into two places in the back 'spring' garden. 

More buds are breaking up on various fruit trees

Did an hour in the garden today. First time this year.  The grass is very wet.

Great time of year  .  We don't have lawn.  Weeds come out of the ground easily after all the rain.

Have spent 20 mins this afternoon removing any leaves/flowers from hellebores that show signs of disease, mainly blackening .... into the council bin for landfill, scissors in the dishwasher to be cleansed.  It spreads quickly - now that we have a lot of plants I am unable to keep up with cutting back the flowers, also I let them seed to get different colours.

I have 4/5 less than 100 hellebores flowering this year

Plus 5 small plant-lets which are now set in a sheltered spot.  These will flower in about 4-5 years.

Every morning something new pops out of the ground or blossoms   


On Friday afternoon I spent a couple of hours putting clematis cuttings into soil in pots, hoping that some will root. Stood in our snug which gets sunshine.  Yesterday I put hebe cuttings into pots with a mix of fine grit and soil, stood in a shaded spot - again, hoping that some will root.  The sunshine was warm.

Now it's drizzling

5 dark purple tulips popped up in the night  they are growing in direct sunshine

Bees around the various prunus trees/shrubs

Spawn has hatched

Few anemones that had started to flower now flattened by a smattering of overnight snow.

Heavy rain continues intermittently in the South Midlands  .  Cameallias flowering.  Fruit tree blossom flowering.  Not many bees though  Heathers looking lovely. Daffs and tulips popping up where I have forgotten that they are there

A border: 5ft long and 3ft wide, dug out and an azalea and camellia planted, covered deeply with ericaceous compost and grit  .  I can see more things to do but can hardly move

  . VINE WEEVIL    in all outdoor and indoor pots - have killed 4 beetles this morning on windowsills  .  It is going to take hours to mix up killer and spray all the pots  but needs must.

Gardening.  Lots of.  Mainly weeding.  Can hardly move

A few weeks ago we bought 5 pots of different flowering daffs/narcissis, now that they are going over I am beginning to break them apart to set into the borders.  Covering over so that the cats don't dig 'em up! 

I also found a miniature hosta tucked away so that's in a new pot, as are 3 small hellebores seedings  . It's All Go
