Calcium tablets
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:30:41 PM »

This is a question for a relative, age 65, long past meno.
Had major back pain issues and previous broken wrist. My physio friend said she should get a bone scan and should be on calcium, yet one GP refused a bone scan as unessesary, and yet another said if she drank milk (only in tea and on cereal) and a bit of cheese that calcium was no use and refused to prescribe it.
Any thoughts, I really think this is wrong.

They seem to be a bit funny about calcium at the moment.

I take a vitamin D3 supplement which has calcium in it.
Earlier this year, the dose was reduced from 2 tabs a day to 1.
The reason given was concern about the amount of calcium taken.
Sadly, I didn't question any further.

My mum broke her hip three years ago. She came out of hospital with a prescription for calcium tablets. She takes two a day.....it was the consultant who prescribed.

I do wish the medical profession would all sing from the same song sheet.
