What time do you take your hrt?
« on: February 03, 2012, 04:43:16 PM »

I was wondering if the time of day that you take your hrt would make a difference to how effective it was?
I'm having a few good days at the moment regarding morning anxiety. I had a period about 2 weeks ago and in the past once i'd had a period generally felt a lot better until it gradually built up until the next one came along(depending on the length of time between them)
I was so bad this last time that i decided to try taking my elleste 2mg in the early evening instead of first thing in the morning.
I was thinking that taking it in the evening may mean that there would be more in my system still by morning and perhaps the morning anxiety would be less.
The only problem is now I don't know if i feel better because I've changed the timing or if I was going to be having a good few days anyway!!
I would love to think that I'd found the answer to all my anxiety but somehow I think it's just going to be the usual ups and downs  ::)
Just thought it was worth tryng and wondered if anyone had tried the same thing?
Hopeful. x

I use oestrogel and put it on at bedtime.  Never gave it any thought as to when was best if I'm honest.

Hi Hopeful,
I use sandrena gel and put it on in the morning.
I asked my nurse if it could be applied before bed and she said morning is best.
Taking a tablet form might be different of course.

I always take mine in the evening, anytime between 7pm and 11pm.  I only started like this as I was worried I might get side effects and at least I would have got over the worst by the morning!

I've never tried taking it in the morning so I can't say which is better.

I've been taking HRT for just over 3 months now.

Hi Hopeful,

I was wondering about this as well.  At present I take my HRT after breakfast in the morning, I am about 2 months into the therapy.  It has worked considerably, but the mornings are a dodgy time still, with hot sweats/dreads/anxiety/palpitations (much less than before thankfully).

I was thinking to switch to night times to try and helps the mornings.  I am not sure if the HRT works continuoisly over the 24 hour period, or lessens as the day goes on. ????

My gp has mentioned that some ladies get a "surge" with tablets but I've not found that. I take mine in the morning after breakfast as one of my peri symptoms was nausia and I read that taking it with food was a good idea. I do take my prog-only mini-pill at night though.
I think the morning problems might also be down to low blood sugar as I always found that exacerbated symptoms. Mine gradually lessened as I settled on HRT.
Do you eat something last thing at night, Yebony? At one stage I had bananas and ginger biscuits by the bed so that I could eat something if I woke in the night feeling jittery and also before getting up. In the early (awful  :( ) days, OH used to bring my breakfast up so I could eat before getting up.

I take mine at 8am in the morning, I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me.  I don't have breakfast until about 10am as I go swimming in the morning, this pattern works well for me.

Hi Hopeful,

I think HRT is a couple of steps forward and one back all the time.

Take care of yourself and note the symptoms down, this is really useful to look back on and see how much it (generally) has improved.

Bette - I had been living off bananas and ginger nut biscuits at the start and they certainly helped.  I have been getting so much better (apart from the occasional blip) that I have got more relaxed in my breakfast routine!!!

Hi hopeful,
I take 1mg of elleste solo in morning with my testogel and then in evening I take 2mg of elleste solo. I know I still get a dip late afternoon and early evening. Hope this helps but it def helps me splitting the dose cos I personally think that my body uses up oestrogen quickly.

https://www.yourhormones.com/take-hormones-once-in-the-morning/

I was wondering the same thing but then just read this link which suggests that its best to take hormones in the morning and not split the dose throughout the day.....  I guess I'll stick to morning dosing :-)
