Hi jgr

Do keep me posted, let me know of any improvements if any. In the meantime I'm gonna try the yes water based product that was recommended Got a appointment with GP on monday.

Don't get me wrong jgr, my partner appreciates the, NHS, they saved his life in 2010 (2broken legs, blood clot on lungs!)he does nothing but sing their praises; it's GPs that he has no time for, and I do understand why.

Some people are fortunate to have the same GP for years who gives the patient the time they deserve, allows you to speak listens to what you have tp sau allows you to express yourself; others like myself have GPs who just rush you in and out the door as quickly as possible, not listening to you, speaking over you and asking you to diagnose yourself when they're supposed to be the doctor.

I guess your one of the lucky ones jgr and good for you, I'm thinking of changing mine soon as I get the chance.

Keep me posted. X

Hello I'm a new bod to the forum.....

So, after a minor battle with my Dr regarding the Amitriplyne which he prescribed to help with the night sweats (and subsequently finding out it was my latex topped mattress which was making the situation a whole lot worse) my husband & I went to see him to discuss my lack of sex drive and pain/bleeding during intercourse. He insisted that the amitriplyne wasn't a problem even though I have put on 2 stone, and he didn't bother to examine me regarding the pain/bleeding...he told me that I needed to have a bottle of wine and relax, and then told me I needed pysco sexual counselling...hmmmm!!

Months down the line where it become unbearable to have intercourse & after waiting a month for an appointment for a female Dr, I have been diagnosed with VA.

She has prescribed Estirol which seems to be starting to work (after a swift road test).

My concerns are that I've never had children due to endometriosis and the paperwork says to 'take special care' if you've suffered with this. I'm not sure what 'special care' is as it doesn't go on to say what you should be looking for?? I'd hate to be all lovely and silky down below and then find out that it has created another problem! Any help would be great!

Also, can you put the cream in after intercourse? Assume that it will still work?

Hi ladies,

I've recently been diagnosed with POF and started on 50mg patch and now on the 75mg eastradol! However I've recently started having problems down below and wondering if this does sound like vaginal atrophy! Pain in the vag area with my Labia getting sore when I wear pants. Have had slight bleeding once from my urethra and so sore when I pre. Have continious urgency to pee and pressure up to my belly button. I have been checked for a UTI and not thus. I know k can ask for vagifem but what the external cream I ask my GP for if it is this?

TIA x :-* :-*

Hi and welcome to mm

I had POF and developed urogenital atrophy in my early 40s despite being in systemic HRT. The UTI type symptoms are a typical symptom of atrophy.
You need Vagifem which is on prescription from your doctor and vaginal moisturisers which are best bought online - SYLK or the YES products are the best.
I found that local oestrogen creams burned my urethra so I prefer to use Vagifem. The moisturisers help
To keep things healthy as well.
Avoid caffiene, fruit juices and alcohol but drink lots if water. If your urethra is burning then try drinking a glasss if water with half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in it morning and evening for 2-3 days. DG x

Do read the various threads on vaginal atrophy.  DG gives good advice.

Browse round.  Mrsdude - your GP needs a  :kick: what on Earth did your husband think!  Maybe a chat with your Practice Nurse?

If you like, the product can be used in the morning though gravity might mean it leaks  ::)

Thank you so much for you're reply ladies. I have an appointment tomorrow to See GP so I will ask him then! I've been having period like cramps to but I don't know.if it's all related. I'm new to all this just been diagnosed in Jan and I've only just turned 33 and it's not helping that I'm googling everything! I am being sent for an vaginal ultrasound due to spotting but I have a feeling it may be due to atrophy instead.

Thanks again  :-*

Hi Almacfarlane - what progesterone are you using? Are you on a continuous or sequential HRT regime? Some spotting and bleeding with any HRT is quite normal in the first few months.
Blood in the urine is also a sign of urogenital atrophy.
It's all pretty confusing and can be scary when you don't know what's happening with the menopause.  Do read up all the info on this site to get clued up and back to us with questions so we can support you.

This site is reputable - founded by a leading NHS gynaecologist who has specialised in the menopause - so stick with this site for info right now. Your husband/partner may benefits from reading the section for husbands. DG x

Thanks DG, so I'm in continious HRT with the merena coil. Started of in Jan with the 50mg patch and had no bleeding till I increased my patch to 75 in April and was spotting on and off for months then it settled last month untill last week when i was few hours late with my patch. Do you think I should wait till I ask for vagifem untill after my scan or will it not make a difference?

Thanks again xxx

Not all women are bleed free with the Mirena, so some occasional bleeding or spotting is probably normal with the Mirena as part of an HRT regime. Occasional cramps is also common with any hormone treatment. Definitely use Vagifem as soon as possible - many women need local and systemic oestrogen.
As you are so young, hrt is essential and you will hopefully feel better over time as your body adjusts to the hormones and the hormones work their magic.  Keep us posted.

Hello, just a we update that I have started the vagifem. Only 4 days in and what a difference I feel on the bladder. I no longer have that pressure feeling but still up to the toilet through the night but it's still early. Getting some spotting so hope.its normal. It's also taken effect on my libido for some strange reason too which is a bonus!

Thanks for all your help DG!  :-*

I have VA which was managed with hrt and estriol.  I've had to stop both because of post meno bleeding and the hysteroscopy was inconclusive.  They want to repeat the biopsy but I don't want to go through it again.   Really stuck now as I do't want the VA to get worse.

Last November my old symptoms started to return, doctor replaced my coil but no change. Since January I have been plagued by thrush, uti’s and pain on my vulva..just one area near the opening, I have eventually been seen by a gynaecologist who has given me 1mg hrt for hot flushes etc - I was previously on 3mg a day...she also gave me vaginal hrt, aveeno cream and prescribed sylk which my gp refused to issue so instead I have replens M.D...anyways the vaginal hrt, could it be causing burning down below...? Two bouts of thrush and yet another uti in two months, anyone have any suggestions? I have considered that maybe my coil may be the route of the problem but been told no...when I was on the 3mg my symptoms disappeared for 3 years but I assume my natural levels have dropped since then causing the flare up of my symptoms...I can cope with the occasional hot flush/sweat but I’m really struggling with the constant pain/uti’s and thrush

Hi   Did this continue to improve after you completed the first 2 weeks Almacfarlane?   I had similar results to you to start with but after that it has all  come back again. I just don't know whether my burning now is a side effect of the Vagifem.
