Fabric matching for Roman Blind
« on: August 29, 2025, 02:09:47 PM »

I am a wee bit in the dark on how to proceed on getting a roman blind for my kitchen....thought maybe someone could help.

Large kitchen window and blind only needed to sit about third way down as sun hits in afternoon.  Problem is that the fabric needs a join.

The techical team have got back with When a blind is made up of more than one width of fabric , the pattern wil be matched at the join
Pattern matching at a join is as close as can be achieved  , but it is not always possible to guarantee an exact pattern match . Our manufacturing techniques do however ensure that the pattern is not out of line in either direction. Patterned fabric blinds are joined in 2 ways , the most aesthetically pleasing 28cm or more than the fabric width . Other joined blinds will have a centre seam.  When we join the fabric we match it from the top
of the blind .

Have looked at finding full width but the cost is so high and very specialized, its really only going to have about 70cm drop to create an roman effect and block sun in afternoon.

My understanding is that the centre seam is not going to look as good...

Do any of you have any knowledge of fabric - sun blinding this  time of day.

Many thanks

You are asking Me - a woman who doesn't know 1 end of the needle from the other  ;D

Roman blinds catch the dust.  We are having night/day blinds being made for our kitchen which faces East.  In the last 3 years it's been unbearably hot in here so we've had to make decisions.  If they work I will have others made, windows are already measured.

Our windows are very large.  Our local curtain lady puts the join into the fold which may B easier than on a blind?

Perhaps a re-think?

CLKD   we did look at the day night blinds ....but felt that as the blinds need be outside of the recess it would not suit.

Just to add my niece has these blinds at front of her house they look lovely....but she has like a like a kind of box cover over the roller at top (pelmet) and it would hit one cupbard door as it opens - hence material.  I am sure you will love them.  They look lovely in her lounge.

My problem is we had trouble years back trying to get a roller blind installed upto the window - a girder runs across top and they had to attach to side recess which hinders open top windows.

Love the admission about the needle.....me I cant see even with me specs on to thread a needle......have my Nana old  magnifying glass which makes me need three hands to thread neddle ;D

Have you thought about a shutter?  More expensive but very easy to clean and would last a very long time

Old Frumpy, how wide is the blind and are you using a blackout lining to stop the sun from showing the seams/joins?

The fabric pattern, is it large, small, geometric, stripes etc?

Is it a flat window or bay type?

Amanda

The blind in 235cm wide but drop in just under under 80cm and I yes it would have blackout lining the pattern is a subdued twig/pussy willow like pattern.  It is a flat window and I want the blind outside recess and only want to use to block out the sun.  I do not intend to drop the blind to window sill.  Have it sit like at about 45 to 50cm. drop.

I was told that the lining made all the difference to the overall look.

Many thanks for your imput.

little minnie ....shutter wouldn't work as I have like a four pane of glass flat  window

Many thanks

Any way you could have 2 blinds? Obviously there'd be a gap and you'd need to work out the fixtures, but you'd have flexibility of using one or both to block out light and also allow some light in.
