Frequent periods
« on: January 16, 2026, 09:30:29 AM »

Right ladies.

What fresh hell is this?????

I won't bore you all with my back history or horrific symptoms that I still endure. And seem to be even worse now...

But periods every few weeks. I'm day 19 today. Bleed started. It's like my E is surging then drops - sore boobs, flushes vanish. But so many other horrific symptoms along with this torrid cycling.

What is this??? I'm 49.5. My sister was through by 50. So I was kind of expecting the gaps.

Not this fresh hell. Sigh.

Hey Crispy!

Could be as you’re getting much closer to end of peri (it can go wild for a few cycles!) OR if you’ve recently stopped the progestin and your LH is surging about.

I’ve learnt a lot about my daily LH and FSH (and oestrogen) volatility through my Mira gadget. Probably not as useful to you as I have a more settled post meno cycle - albeit very volatile in the luteal phase.

You never know, you may be someone who gets all the volatility over and done with in peri and that it’s all coming to a head.

Thank you for replying DM.

So towards the end cycles can get very short??? I've never experienced this before.

God. I really hope this is it coming to a head. I'm in a terrible place. My moods are now atrocious. Absolutely off the scale crying etc. On top of my physical ill stuff.

I think I'm just going to have to ride this out. My E has clearly not finished yet. Sigh. I'm not getting a lot of low E symptoms. At times - yes. Most times, no.

But you still dont get low E symptoms, right?

Remind me again - did you get flushes?

Oh yes it’s very common for cycles to shorten, then the opposite can start happening where you have anovulatory cycles, so you skip a bleed or many. I always had very regular cycles and it wasn’t until after my symptoms peaked that I started to get bleeding sometimes after just 10 days and it was quite heavy for me. I also had cramping which I never had before. It didn’t last long, then they lengthened.

No, my oestrogen never stays low enough to cause low E joint/dryness symptoms. My mum never had symptoms so I probably won’t have enough oestrogen sufficiency to need to add it back. Obviously too reactive to it to try to get high levels for bone protection, so it’s an easy decision for me. However, it dropped from about 100 to 10 on Thursday and I felt so much better once the drop completed. It started rising again yesterday (about day 21) and I felt the symptoms hit again. I also used to feel much better at end of cycle so I know my low E is where I feel the best.

I had lots of temp symptoms. Started with feeling hot all the time in peri followed by severe shivers and shakes as E zoomed up high. I had proper hot flushes in early post meno as E dropped and they made me feel energised rather than soaking wet. It was a feeling that crept over me as heat rose in my back so definitely different to before that. Now I have those occasionally, more short and sweet.

Despite us being anomalies, in some different and overlapping ways, the short cycles are very standard.

Just to add, the shivers were so intense I looked like people you see on TV when they are going cold turkey from heroin. The couple of times over that extreme time that I made it to the GP or A&E, I had also lost so much weight that I was repeatedly questioned about recreational drugs and/or having an eating disorder. They would not consider hormones for a moment.

This also coincided with a night I parked in a Sainsbury’s car park as needed to get Dioralite as was so weak from lack of food and people moved away from me as I entered as I looked so ill. I stayed in the car for an hour after taking it in case I passed out (as live alone) as knew the security guard was keeping an eye on me for the wrong reasons. Crazy to remember all that now!

Awww DM. What a hellish story.

But, dare I say it gives me hope???

So you felt that bad at your peak of peri??? And, like me, everything you touched made you worse. Then what happened??? It just all started to get better?????

Yes. I guess I know the frequent periods is normal and part of the transition. But when you're as sensitive to change as me - it's just constant hell and turmoil. Sigh.

Do you not think the frequent bleeds will last long? I'm getting sore boobs for a week before (I never get that) so I know my E is going sky high. Then the boobs suddenly stop hurting and I bleed. But this spiking high and crashing is causing insane physical and emotional distress. It's crazy. Plus cramping and pain I've never had before. And yes, heavier for me - which I put down to the peaking E.

My periods became closer together too, after this they became more sporadic. I think it's considered late peri so perhaps the end is in sight for you.

Yes it’s all pointing to late peri for you!

I was worse, in terms of the nausea, 10 years ago, so about 4 years before the point you seem to be at, when I had the cramps etc. but there were always episodes of the nausea and the constant physical tenseness. That only goes away if I have prog cream or a momentary low of oestrogen.

Nothing suddenly changed after my periods ended but it’s all been a gradual sloping off of symptoms. For some though, they instantly feel better.

I noticed a ramping up of volatility last year which may be as my ovarian reserves are almost empty so LH is surging more?

Just to say that I am approaching end of cycle and my oestrogen has just leapt up to normal levels for a menstruating woman! This is 6 years from last period.

The last few days always feel so intense as if I am plugged into my electricity circuit at home. When it falls it’s a huge relief.

I can only imagine what they leapt to in peri, possibly off the scale.
