GSM and all the joy
« on: January 10, 2026, 01:16:14 AM »

Hi all,
New here and amazed at the wealth of knowledge and support offered.
I discovered I had vaginal atrophy about 2 years ago and have struggled with it ever since. The worst symptoms being bladder related.
I finally found a reasonably happy routine with the support of my lovely lady GP which is daily Vagifem (I had to go off Ovestin because it kept giving me thrush of the Glabrata kind!).
I use coconut oil as a moisturiser and that keeps thing pretty comfy on the outside as we have limited external vaginal moisturisers here in Australia.

My question - does anyone else suffer when summer rolls around?  I suddenly had a flair up of the worst kind about 3 weeks back as the weather got hot just before Xmas.
To add to it, the anxiety surrounding the return of symptoms probably added to the discomfort.  Is this something others notice too?
I would have sworn I had thrush again (everything sore to sit down, lots of urging to pee again), but the swabs (I had 2, a week apart!) but they are negative.
I vaguely remember suffering a year ago but being 50 now, my memory may not serve me as well!

It has been a stinking hot summer, so not surprised it can worsen symptoms. I've had a recent VA flare up in this heat too but I think it might be down to my oestrogen implant running out of juice (I've just started adding patches, which is just lovely in this heat). A few months ago I started using Prasterone, it definitely improved bladder symptoms so you may want to give it a go, just be prepared to pay for it privately if you want a repeat script. You can also try Olive & Bee vaginal moisturiser, they're the only Australian brand I know of. I hear a cool change is coming, so hopefully that might ease our symptoms!

Thanks!  Summer and menopause are NOT friends!
I have Olive and Bee moisturiser here.  I might give it a go.
I use systemic estrogen and progesterone that I get from the USA - it's nice and gentle and suits me most of the time.  Emerita BiEstro and ProGest body creams.  At the moment, it's been next to no use in this hot weather.  I told my husband we are moving to one of the following:  Tasmania, Mt Hotham or just bite the bullet and go over the ditch to NZ lol.
