Meditation apps
« on: December 11, 2025, 10:50:53 PM »

Hi ladies

Can anyone recommend a meditation app?

I've looked at a couple, but they have really bad reviews on Trustpilot (calm & headspace).

I know there's some on YouTube, but don't know which are good and trusted, plus there will be adverts, which will interrupt the meditation, which obviously won't be good.

Thank you

Yes, I use a good safe App.

It's more than just a meditation app as it's from a well known community of Buddhist monks, based in France.  The meditation section contains sound only items and videos.  There are also short tutorials on how to meditate.

Search Plum Village in the app store.

I have been to mindfulness classes which do meditation seesions and relaxation techniques.  Even now many years on I still do the breathing technique to calm me.  I even went with my then boss to a starter session with a view to training.

It is worth a look at the site

I like the Waking Up app. It has a beginners course, then daily meditations, daily quotes and moments. But there is sooo much more. A huge back catalogue of talks, conversations meditations all really interesting stuff. You can usually get a fre trial and if funds were tight they let you have it for free. I'm not sure if they still do this. Certainly loads better then the ones you mentioned. IMO....

I have used Headspace for years and they are continually updating it with lots of different features. I started with it because I found Andy Puddacombe's voice very calming. It has become quite Americanised but you can select which voice you want to take you through many of the meditations and sessions. I tend to pick the British voices.

I will check out some of the other suggestions. Thank you ladies.

Funnily enough Old Frumpy....I went to Bangor University (many moons ago) so I will be interested in that thread. Don't think it was "a thing" when I was there.

I like Linda Hall guided meditations on You Tube, she has the most calming and soothing voice which for me brings a lot of comfort and reassurance.

I've used the downloadable ones from Dartmouth college in America. You can find them on their website. They have meditation and mindfulness ones but I use the short guided relaxation one, I think it's about 10 minutes long. I have it on my phone

Thank you everybody, I shall look into all your suggestions, and see which i would like to go with.

The reason I want to try meditation is because I hold tension in my body, particularly my stomach, and really need to relax it. I also constantly think about my health problem, which only makes the symptoms worse, so need to learn to clear my head so I'm not always thinking about it. Although I'm not sure which meditation I should be doing,  but hopefully once I look at the apps it will become clear. If anyone can offer any guidance to which type I need to do, please advice. (By type I mean for example, mindfulness, sleep, etc).

I think Calm has a free trial period so you could try it before committing. They also regularly do 40% off deals. They do have some amazing tracks, it was one I head on instagram that literally melted my brain within seconds that got me to do the trial.
