New Member - Dizziness and HRT
« on: December 08, 2025, 04:33:51 PM »

Hi All,

I'm 50 and have had dizziness (off balance 24/7) which began just after I turned 50. I think it's migraine related as I was diagnosed with Vestibular migraine in 2011 (had dizziness then too). This dizzy spell began the week I had my monthly cycle and for the months leading up I had migraines before my period was due. Over the last few months I've been taking vitamins and doing vestibular rehab which has helped a little, I also saw a breast surgeon a few months back about some cysts and he took one look at me and recommended I get HRT.
I have had bad anxiety and low mood for many years, these are the worst symptoms along with the dizziness but I have been on low dose Mirtazapine for years which does help with the anxiety. Anyway I started oestrogen gel about 2 and half weeks ago, was doing fine until I started Utrogestan about 7 days ago and the dizziness got worse around 3 days ago. i have read a lot about how you can take progesterone and started taking it vaginally 2 nights ago but the increased dizziness has not yet abated.
I was wondering to any ladies that have experienced dizziness, did the HRT eventually help with this? i am debating continuing at this point as the dizziness has already affected my working life and I don't want it to be worse.

Many thanks
Louise

That feeling of being off kilter is awful.

Why did the breast surgeon suggest HRT?  I believe that low oestrogen may cause similar symptoms, I expect some1 will be along with knowledge about that.

R U able to explain the 'oestrogen gel' aspect?

Unfortunately micronised progesterone can exacerbate dizziness as it has diuretic properties.

You would be better on a non diuretic progestin, a robust dose of estrogen and to consider testosterone as well.

You would have to say the latter is for low libido to get it on the NHS.

CLKD - the breast surgeon suggested this because i had a hot flush in the clinic and he said he's done lots of research and feels it's very safe. I also told him about migraines etc and he said his wife had been helped with HRT.
I am using 2 pumps of Oestrogen gel prescribed by my GP.

Thank you bombsh3ll for the information - I will see my GP and see if this can be changed.
