Oestrogel and lack of libido and brain fog
« on: December 08, 2025, 02:47:39 PM »

So, I’ve been on Oestrogel for maybe 10 years plus and post menopause for about 4.
I have tried testosterone before but it really didn’t work well for me. I can’t actually remember why as I have crazy brain fog 😶‍🌫️
I reduced my pumps to one a day about four years ago but recently ( 6-12 months ish) I’ve noticed I have horrendous brain fog and also zero( and I mean ZERO) libido. I reduced the pump from two to one initially as this seemed to keep the hot flashes away and I remember reading that we should only try and use the minimum dosage needed.
My question is ( and my doc is useless as I’ve asked 🙄), if I increase to two pumps per day, does anyone think that might help with my two main issues?
( I also take progesterone nightly)

Probably, 1 pump  is so little. You may find you need more than 2. If your libido returned with sufficient oestrogen before then probably it will return again, if not you can ask for testosterone ( usually a year's wait at an NHS meno clinic) but you need enough oestrogen first. Might be worth a blood test to see how low your levels are, on 1 pump it's probably less than you need for bone protection. Randox, medichecks etc do it if your GP won't, they don't usually.

Testosterone is the primary hormone of sexual desire in both males and females, and even across different species.

Estrogen may increase a partner's or potential partner's desire for us, by making us better looking and nicer to be around.

But in my opinion and personal experience it doesn't increase a woman's own libido.

Sometimes you will hear people saying well estrogen makes intercourse less painful by treating GSM therefore it should increase women's libido.

However this is both reductive and heteronormative, and female sexual desire is about far more than merely the absence of pain.

Also, as with any other medication, guidelines recommend using the lowest EFFECTIVE dose. Unfortunately this is often interpreted as use the lowest available dose, leading to undertreatment.
