Peri, changing HRt - confused!
« on: November 16, 2025, 07:52:55 AM »

Hey everyone

This is my first post and hope to cover everything. Guess I'm looking for some advice or ideas as my Dr is useless!

Started getting hormonal migraines 2-3 years ago after pms, bleed. Frovatriptans worked with 5-6 day migraines.
Then low mood kick in and feeling crazy, dull and just pretty miserable and became a super shouty, irrational mum!

Dr newson influenced me to try patches and mirena and this was a constant, low and stable dose and would remove hormone fluactions.

Always spotted intermittently but last 8 months this changed to heavy periods, PMS, cramping and then migraines almost 10 days to 28 days.
Have a US scan today. Referral to gynae for a lump. Found etroption.

Came across Lara Briden and just felt really off, like my oestrogen levels were too high maybe. Felt overly bloated and just not myself. Super sensitive to noise, brain fog as well.

Spoke to Dr who got advice from menopause clinic (only one in area and I'm outside of catchment area) they suggested Slynd for pms, migraines and moods as I was still ovulating

Decided to just come off patches - 25 evorel to see what was happening and I guess I felt maybe estrogen was too high.tjis was 2 weeks ago.

Dr suggested I came off straight away and didn't taper.
First week felt lighter, brighter, less sensitive in my head even with daily migraines. No bleeding.
But last few days mood swings crazy, low moods and starting to feel irrational and overwhelmed especially with ADHD kid.
I've asked Dr for progesterone only as I still want to track periods/ovulate as I haven't had any obvs low estrogen Symptoms like flashes/sweats but they have refused. So currently all I have is mirena. Not sure if I need to go on estrogen to even out moods and just cope with bloating. Also taking B2 and magnesium for migraines.

Any idea or advice or suggestions would be wonderful as I'm doing a lot of reading but getting stuck as drs aren't helping. Thanks so much for reading.

 :welcomemm:

what support do U get with your child?

How old R U?  Which symptom would you like to ease first?

Migraines may well become troublesome at peri but there are modern medications that should help, been on the market about 12 months I think. U may need to ask your Surgery to research those.

Where was the lump found?

How were your moods during your menstruating years?  How is your diet?

Browse round, make notes ;-). Ask away.

Thank you!!

I have been taking frovatriptans which help.
Diet pretty good. Eat a lot of veggies, grains. Last year found I was getting migraine with histamines so trying to follow a lower histamine diet. Hardly drink alcohol. Don't smoke.
Cyst on cervix. Might be related to coil or cervical. Lining of womb fine.
Guess what I'd like to do is try body identical progesterone first and remove mirena. But drs are refusing as it's not licensed on NHS.

I've been suffering from migraines for sp long now I'm kinda used to them so focus would be on low moods and feeling less erratic and low.

What I'm confused about is that if estrogen is so naturally fluctuating anyway and if I go back on estrogen (which did seem to be helping with mood) is that too much for the progestin I'm getting in mirena which from my understanding is only really thining out the lining of my womb anyways. I'm not getting any progesterone to help with moods, migraine and PMS.

Why are drs so against trying natural route?
They'll give me progestin (slynd) or destrogestin if I'm on estrogen.

Or are happy for me to stop periods and ovulating which I'm trying to avoid for the moment.

Not sure if need to ask these questions in other areas of the forum?
Thanks for reading

U continue here so that responses don't get lost?

Peri - those 10+ years when we may begin to notice differences in cycles, moods, diets ........ and menopause are 'natural'.  Symptoms though can become really difficult and uncomfortable so HReplacementT may help.

Some find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary of use to chart progress.  Something to show medics for discussion.
