Need support
« on: November 04, 2025, 02:13:01 PM »

Sorry I'm here again!

Need advice please.. sorry for long post!
History
Had Pmb (one episode of brown discharge) in Mar 24 TVS- showed 2mm lining and fluid. Referred for hysteroscopy which failed due to stenosis of cervix. Had a repeat TVS in Jun 24 - fluid reduced but lining was 4.7. Offered hysterectomy but agreed to watch and wait as he felt a big step when I was feeling so well. Have been ok up until 3 weeks ago when I had a spot of blood after using applicator for vaginal moisturiser.  Discontinued moisturiser for a week and not had anything since restarting it.
On that note I have been struggling with UTI symptoms too, do have flares which I have treated with Dmannose over the last 8 yrs. I was so fed up of having to take antibiotics so after bladder scan and cystoscopy was ok and was given advice to use vagifem for VA. I did this but my gp disagreed with continuing it and agreed that I use it only when symptoms were severe!!
I'm in the process of asking whether I can have a repeat scan of bladder and tvs.
I haven't used any vaginal oestrogen for two yrs. Had planned to go back to my occasional use after seeing the consultant in Jun 24 but when I asked whether oestrogen would benefit me.  He said  ..no one in their right minds would recommend this due to them not being able to rule out any issues with the hysteroscopy.  I accepted this at the time but now wonder whether he was referring to HRT  and not vaginal oestrogen.
So fed up and really hoping you may have some suggestions. Thanks

Such dreadful advice from your GP, if you don't use vaginal oestrogen your symptoms will only get worse over time. Hopefully someone will come along and explain more than I can, in the meantime the document in the link below will be helpful to you.

That's dreadful advice, seems like there at too many medics that still lack menopausal knowledge  :cuss:

OK rant over.

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out; skin, scalp, vagina, anus, back of the neck, deep in the ears, eyes, nostrils - hopefully not all at the same time!

This GP is out of date.  One does not use VA treatment when necessary, it's designed to plump up the vaginal walls so that they are less dry and itchy.  Initially we should use nightly for 2-3 weeks then 'as necessary', some require nightly use for years, others manage to keep symptoms under control with every 3rd and 5/6th nights for example.

The Consultant is also giving out conflicting advice.  My suggestion is that y ou get a referral to a dedicated menopause clinic: not a gynae: there are waiting lists on both NHS and private Clinics .  An appt once it does arrive can be cancelled if no longer required. [this goes for most medical issues these days due to long waits].

Is there a Nurse Practitioner in your surgery who should have more knowledge about peri etc. than GPs still seem to have!

Get an appt., make a list and discuss.  Good Luck.  VA treatment is essential for many of us, every night if necessary.  Too many medics read the leaflets in the box!  Which are incorrect.

A hysterectomy or no estrogen for a lining 0.7 of a millimetre above the arbitrary cut off of 4mm?

Where the feck did this numpty qualify as a gynaecologist?

Would he sacrifice his quality of life, or that of a male patient for 0.7 of a chuffing MILLIMETRE?

You need to fire both of these clowns and see a menopause specialist!

Even if you have to pay it will be money well spent.

Sorry for the late reply, managed to get a very late gp appt!. Thanking you all for your replies much appreciated makes you realise your not on your own.
Saw a young and quiet gp but she did appear to be listening to my issues!
Expained about my recurrent utis and also about the spotting I had a few weeks ago.
She examined my pelvis area and checked my urethra/ vagina. Need to supply a  urine sample for testing tomorrow
She has agreed for me to have another TVS and Bladder Scan.
Mentioned to her about local oestrogen and what the consultant had said to me in Jun 24. Said she could go back to him regarding  restarting it but did say that it maybe risky with not having had the womb biopsy. In fairness to her she did say that it's a balance between risk and benefits.
I suppose I will have to wait on scan results now and take it from there. Feel better tonight for taking action and strangely enough my waterworks appear a bit better, possibly stress related as I know I am suffering with anxiety over family issues.

Thank you for the info Aysha printed out and I will be reading that.
I agree CKLD and Bombshell definitely, need support from a Menopause Clinic. I did try to look into this before...will try again. Felt they may not see me as I'm past menopause by 15 yrs.... Will also look to see if there is a practise nurse at our surgery who will maybe support me.

Thanks again
