All the reproductive hormones are steroid hormones, so estrogen, progesterone and testosterone all are too. Prasterone/dhea is a precursor hormone, your body can make testosterone and estrogen from it.
It’s also used in intrarosa for vaginal atrophy, but most mean vagifem, which is estradiol, when talking about pessaries. When vaginal estradiol doesn’t work well enough, intrarosa can sometimes work better, because it works on both estrogen and androgen receptors in the vagina.
I’ve read pretty good things about estring, I haven’t read it’s uncomfortable (although I would worry about getting it in and out myself), it doesn’t seem to be available here (Netherlands), but I have put it on my list to ask about at my next appointment. So, personally I’d try it if it was offered, although I would worry about getting it in, so I’d probably ask to have the first one placed by my gp.
