“Forgot” to take utrogestan-fatigue gone!
« on: Today at 11:02:18 AM »

Hi everyone x

I’m on Prostap for PMDD, perimenopause and progesterone intolerance (mirena was a disaster for me!) and I forgot to take my utrogestan last night (x2).

I’ve been really struggling with fatigue and aching, feeling low and flat and also migraine and face pain.

Anyway, I forgot to take utro last night…I remembered when I got in bed but was too tired to get up again to take it!

Anyway, after months of barely functioning, I have cleaned my kitchen this morning! And I’m dressed! Before 3pm!

I’m sure this isn’t coincidence! Or psychosomatic.

The specialist suggested that if utrogestan doesn’t suit me, which it now seems not to, I could try Slynd.

I have an appt with the pharmacist on Tuesday so I’m going to ask him about it.

I’m hoping it will be ok-I can’t go on like this. I’m only 49 but I have literally no life atm-I’ve been off work for three months.

Any insights on Slynd from very progesterone intolerant members?

I’m dreading taking it but I know it’s a hoop I will have to jump through…

Also, do you think I should stay off the utro till I get hold of Slynd? I’m interested to see how I would be-I’ll probably feel like superwoman in a few days! 🤣

Thank you xxx

I’m very progesterone intolerant and I tried drospirenone (the progestin that is in Slynd) in Drovelis. Mood wise it was much better than progesterone, I’m not going to say it was amazing, because it wasn’t, but I can definitely say, I tolerated it and it was good enough to be able to take estrogen. Plus, it suppressed my cycle, which was great, as I don’t have a PMDD diagnosis, but I think I would get one with my symptoms. So, I think you might be able to stop with Prostap once you get suppressed by Slynd, but I’m not entirely sure, do talk to your doctor about this part.

As you can see, I’m speaking in the past tense, that is because I got a bad eczema flare up from drospirenone. It has a diuretic effect and most women don’t have many problems with that, but for me, it caused my dry skin to get even more dry apparently. But, since it is the first progestin I’ve tried that doesn’t cause major mood issues, I switched to dienogest, which is also a 4th generation progestin. Still early days with side effects (drospirenone and dienogest both give me fatigue, but it subsides after a few weeks, where with progesterone it’s a constant), but mood wise I’m thinking it will be ok, because I’m definitely not feeling low, just tired and a headache.

Utro has the same effect on me. Short term it's fine not to take it but depends on how long it will be before you get something else. Personally if it's going to be a long time I'd use utro sequentially on a 5-6 week cycle in the meantime.

Thanks so much both :)) x

I can’t say I’m too optimistic about the Slynd but I know I have to try it.

I have had cycle suppression before using mirena and Evorel 100 but as well as the issues with levenongestrel, the consultant said my own hormones were competing with these because I was having fairly frequent crashes as well as the mirena side effects, so that’s why so have the Prostap.

However, if Slynd did suppress completely, it would be good to come off the Prostap, for sure! 😅

I think I’ll have it by late Tuesday or Wednesday by the latest as I’ve got an appt with the pharmacist on Tuesday and it’s all written up in the specialist’s letter, Sheila99, so only a couple of days…I must say, I’d quite like to feel like this forever! 😁 xx

The mirena didn’t suppress me, I still had periods, only much lighter (my first mirena I got for very heavy and extremely painful periods and it did work very well for that). I also don’t respond well to the levonorgestrel mood wise.
I was on Drovelis myself (drospirenone/estetrol), it has only 3 mg of drospirenone vs the 4 mg in Slynd and it did completely suppress me and I think drospirenone does suppress most women really well. So hopefully that will be the same for you.

If you are on prostap you could get tibolone, which can be a godsend for progestogen intolerant women and is often overlooked.

If you prefer to stick to estradiol and a progestogen, don't forget about testosterone.

Anecdotally this can make progestogens easier to tolerate (although you would have to say it's for libido to get it on the NHS).

Thank you x

It was mirena + Evorel 100 for cycle suppression for PMDD as suggested in the NAPS Guidelines.

I still had regular bleeds on mirena only and of course was horribly depressed in between.

I will ask about Tibolone-thanks bombshell :) x
