Article on iron Deficiency in the Guardian
« on: November 02, 2025, 12:06:42 PM »

Hello ladies.

In yesterday's Saturday section of the Guardian there is an article about the need for better identification and treatment for iron deficiency. The article features younger, menstruating women but I imagine that older women who are experiencing post meno bleeding or spotting may also be at risk.

I am a long way post menopausal but a recent routine blood test found that I am iron deficient and I have been prescribed iron tablets to take for three months. After this time I intend to contact my GP to see if I am absorbing the tablets and if not, I will ask for a different treatment.

I hope this is of interest ladies and take care.

K.

Hi Kathleen, not looked at the forum for a good few days so didn't know you had posted about the Guardian article from 2 Nov.  In fact, earlier this evening I sent you a PM - actually 2 PMs - containing the text of the article (!) as I know like me you are supplementing for low ferritin, although as mentioned elsewhere on the forum, at 20 mine was not deemed low enough to warrant treatment on the NHS.  Only afterwards when I logged on again to set up a thread signposting the article did I find . . . you had done one already  ;D.  So this is just to say I agree it's well worth a read & please feel free to ignore the PMs.
