VA / Lichen Sclerosus / UTI's
« on: October 15, 2025, 07:37:36 PM »

Hello all, I'm new here. I've recently been diagnosed with lichen sclerosus and I'm not sure if it's this or perimenopause that's caused my VA, or indeed both, but it's becoming more and more of a problem. I've always struggled with uti's but now can't have sex at all without getting one, despite all the usual prevention methods that used to help. I think it's because the fusion is all the way over my urethra and I can't always empty my bladder completely.
Has anyone managed to correct this in a non surgical way or am I going to have to consider surgery? I have oestrogen cream but only recently started using it. I've had the steroid cream for lichen sclerosus since June but it's not done a great deal tbh. Less itching but that's about it.
I've just been on antibiotics for 2 weeks for a stubborn uti (citrobacter) and keen to keep it at bay but not entirely sure how to as I think d mannose, cranberry PAC's etc only works for e coli :/
If anyone is in a similar boat and has any advice I'd be very grateful.

Hi
Has lichen sclerosis been confirmed by a biopsy? I suffer from dryness and bladder cystitis and having bladder installations. Too early to confirm benefit. I also use her pessary internal and gel external which has helped. I don't know much about  UTIs.hopefully someone can help. X

No, not had biopsy but gynae said it's very obvious and my mum has it as well.
I think cystitis is a uti, it's just another word for the same thing, uti - urinary tract infection. So bladder installations could help me too. I have been reading about them, did you get referred to urology to get them? I'd love to have an alternative to antibiotics as I can't function on them at all.

My GP ordered an ultrasound and then I was referred to urology.   In terms of LS I think it's sensible to ask for proof as sometimes they are wrong like in my case. Good luck and I hope you find a solution

I don't have LS but I do have VA and a history of UTIs linked to sex specifically. I saw the relevant consultants, had a cystoscopy and ended up with prophylactic antibiotics, one after sex to prevent infection. It did work but I wasn't living with the man so the sex wasn't regular so I'm not sure the doc would have prescribed more. I also use vagifem pessaries and estriol cream externally. I hope you find something that works.
