Compounded Prog
« on: October 14, 2025, 11:44:32 AM »

Hi Ladies, so I was on Utrogestan, using it cyclically for many years, but then when I became a certain age, I no longer wanted those pesky monthly bleeds so I consulted a Dr who gave me the script for Compounded Prog rub on cream, 20mg. I still use 1 pump of Oestrogel daily, it seems to work well for symptoms. My levels could be a bit higher for bone protection. I had been using the Prog rub on cream for about 6 weeks and had a blood test which showed my Prog levels to be barely existant, which is a worry. Someone suggested I use it twice per day as it only stays in the system apparantly for 12 hours. My main concern is I dont want to get thickening of the uterine lining. I have enjoyed the no bleed weeks but cannot risk issues. I spoke to the pharmacy, they assure me that their product does have certain contents that allow penetration of the skin and to get into the system but they also said I could try a troche. I know some ladies here have used compounded creams and troches. Has anyone had success with showing a decent blood level on transdermal P as all the videos I have watched say its a big no no and not safe at all yet this pharmacist is telling me its very capable of getting into they system, I just need to perhaps up the dosage. I will consult again with the Dr just wanted to get some feedback here. I dont really want to use the Utrogestan daily, I was using it Vaginally but found using it daily gave me irritation and also made me feel quite hyper, unlike some ladies that it has a sedatory effect on. Its all so difficult to find the perfect balance and still be safe.  :-\ The other decision is, as per my prev post, about the Dr in America who says we should all be using E&P cyclically and getting bleeds, as per what they refer to as the Wiley Protocol, but just not sure what to believe as others say no, its a big no after a certain age....

You need at least 50mg per day if taking oestrogen as well.

My progesterone levels went too high when NHS blood tested them, that was on 50-100mg per day on and off, as it builds up in the fat tissue.

Troches which are absorbed more quickly through mucus membranes can make levels rise higher but they also crash quickly, so could cause mood swings.

50mg per day sounds spot on to me.  It was certainly the ideal dose for me when I was using the buccal lozenges (they dissolve between the upper lip and the gum) and my uterine scans were always under 3mm.

They must have provided a stable dose of progesterone too because I didn't have a single migraine aura for the entire time I used them whereas I was plagued with endless migraine auras while using Utrogestan.  The progesterone registered on my blood tests results too.

Cassie, if you are worried about the dose the only way to resolve it is via a transvaginal scan.

I wouldn't worry too much about the doctor in the US either.  If you want to you can always take a bleed break every now and again but often they can do more harm than good because they destabilise your hormones which can lead to unwanted sides effects.
