Vaginal estrogen
« on: October 13, 2025, 03:27:59 PM »

Hoping for some advice.  Had a uti last week, course of 3 days antibiotics and then it came back, taken another 3 days and now feeling anxious as still don't feel right.

I've taken a d-mannose sachet this morning.

Ive got vagirux vaginal tablets prescribed am I ok to start taking it tonight? I think it's 1 a night for 2 weeks and then twice a week.

Thank you 🙏

Take as soon as possible, it can take up to four months for topical oestrogen to work. If you find the two a week is not relieving symptoms you can go up to five a week. I use the pessaries seven days alongside Estriol cream for the outside to relieve my symptoms. Also to say the leaflet is out of date as it refers more to systemic HRT, plus the dose of oestrogen has been lowered in the pessary.

Has a urine sample been sent to a Lab for testing or R the surgery diagnosing in a dipstick test?  If +ive 3 days ain't enough, one should be prescribed 7 days of the appropriate Anti biotic.

Vaginal atrophy mimics repeated urine infection-type symptoms really really well.  Use the vagirux from tonight, for at least 2-3 weeks which will ease symptoms and begin replacing any oestrogen within the vagina.  If that doesn't help, ask to change to Vagifem or estriol/ovestin.  Let us know how you get on?
