Damned if I do..damned if I don’t!
« on: October 11, 2025, 03:04:28 AM »

Hi all maybe someone else has experienced this? Recently went back on to patches as the gel wasn’t for me.. have been feeling great.. lovely skin, hair, no sweats, stable mood where I’m feeling quite content almost all the time however I developed really painful heavy legs so much so I had to take the patch off ( got relief by the next day) and a few other silly things like a cough ( not too bad I could live with that) and bloating ( looking full in the face if that makes sense) Iv had problems with the patch before a few years back when I developed insane itching where I couldn’t even sit down when travelling on the train to work although this time so far so good it hasn’t come back. That also went away very quickly on removal of the patch.  Any ideas of how to get around this as I know my symptoms will be back with a vengeance if I stay off hrt for too long and I’m really enjoying feeling so good lol I’m on Evorel 50… was prescribed a different patch but they are not available currently so had to return to these! I don’t need a higher dose but was thinking perhaps I need slightly lower??? Or maybe it’s just that particular patch doesn’t suit and I just need to wait it out till estradot are back in stock?

Have a look at the options from Menu. You could try estraderm (A4 size but you can get it with the estradot prescription when it's out of stock), femseven patch ( change weekly) or sandrena gel (assuming the gel you didn't get on with was oestrogen.

Don't be afraid of taking oral estradiol.

It always amazes me what women are prepared to put up with, patches that itch and come off, gel that is messy and unreliable, twice weekly showers, buying adhesives to stick over the top etc...

Do you realise the clot risk with tablets is about one extra clot per 4000-5000 users per year?

I’ve never been offered tablet form I thought perhaps that was down to age I’m 57 now? I have 2 months supply ready to collect from the pharmacy do you think it’s too late for me to say can I change them for something else as they are now waiting for me to go in and pick them up.  I did tell the pharmacist a few days back that I had problems with them in the past re itching all over but so far it had not returned then wham very very uncomfortable legs! Or will I have to continue on again with these and change when I get my next prescription? I’m kicking myself at speaking too soon

The risk of clots increases anyway with age, that's why gps will rarely prescribe oral for over 50s. Speak to your pharmacist, they can give you estraderm on your current prescription then perhaps change next time if they don't suit. It's an option to only take one months supply, it'll probably take that long to get a GP appointment anyway.

I think I’m one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have a problem getting Gp appointments thank goodness and my lady Gp is a dream…sometimes I feel like I’m being such a pain bothering her with silly little things but I’m a bit tired of all this faffing about trying to find something that works well.  Iv been on and off hrt for many years trying different regimes sometimes I feel like it’s one step forward and 2 back! I manage to reduce some things that are bothering me only to develop something new that I didn’t have when I wasn’t taking hrt. My most problematic symptoms are awful flushes that I can feel coming before I even get hot and lack of energy I suppose…my moods seem to be more on an even keel the older I’m getting which is great and as for sleep well…I work night shifts and tend to sleep well when I get home but probably not nearly as long as I should …but lack of sleep isn’t an issue for me I’m more of an owl not a lark anyway😁..the energy I lack is different I feel to lack of sleep if you can understand what I mean. I also noticed my hair has improved greatly…it was terrible when I was on nothisterone and the gel..I thought I was going bald!  One thing I can say is that I had awful melasma for years that was very stubborn and even the dermatologist couldn’t find a way to help me get rid of it so I was always looking very glamorous with a face full of make up to cover it ….now it has completely disappeared and I’m over the moon.
