Stopping cerelle contraceptive
« on: October 10, 2025, 09:00:09 PM »

Hi. I have been taking progestrone only pill called cerelle since i was 38. I take it to manage terrible monthlys and it works. It had stopped my periods totally for years.
I am now 51 years old. Late 40s i had terrible night sweats but these have all stopped for past year.
My question is, I want to stop taking cerelle, as I might be taking it when I just dont need to anymore. If I stop and monthlys come back, is it as effective if you start it again?

Yes you can just stop it.

However if you have been amenorrhoeic on progestin only contraception since your 30s, probably experienced menopause in your late 40s and are not on any estrogen now, I would strongly urge you to think about your bone density and get a DEXA scan.

If you are sexually active with a fertile male partner, whilst conception would be as rare as rocking horse manure, official guidelines recommend a FSH blood test to exclude the need for any further birth control.
