How to take continuous?
« on: Today at 02:57:10 PM »

Hi,

I've been on sequential for 5 years, peri-menopausal for 9, according to NICE (UK), after 5 yrs of sequential I should try continuous, also I want to stop the painful withdrawal bleeds if I can.

I used utrogestan which is micronised progesterone and the UK literature suggests hysterically high doses  I'm not great with progesterone and have always used it virginally therefore with a strange side effect, it loosens my vaginal wall muscles.

I don't want to use a coil, I have had one installed before and it made me depressed and I bled all the time, especially when I got lucky.  ;)

I have a review scheduled with my GP in a couple of weeks, but their knowledge is not as thorough as I need it to be, so I'd be grateful to hear what others do for continuous micronised progesterone?

The dose of micronised progesterone for continuous use is generally half that for sequential.

So if you are taking 200mg every night for 2 weeks out of 4 at the moment as is typically prescribed, you would simply take 100mg every night.

The overall progesterone burden is the same in simple terms.

Additionally there are an increasing number of oral progestins available so don't feel like micronised progesterone or the IUS are your only options.
