Private MRI
« on: Today at 10:39:53 AM »

Been investigating my lower back pain, waited ages for appointments with docs they always refer you to the physiotherapist. She was very nice and gave me some excercises and told me to do Pilates. Did all that it’s still there and what’s worse I’m getting debilitating hip pain. Got another appointment with her to discuss that this Wednesday. I expect she’ll tell me to do Pilates again. Was nearly crippled after work on Saturday, lots of standing up. So this morning I went off for a private MRI scan as I’m getting harrumphy about endless waiting at docs and getting nowhere for every single thing. It only took 12 mins and I’ll get the report analysed and sent in three days! Plus the scanner man was devastatingly handsome AND friendly. It makes a daunting thing quite pleasant. Never had one before but it was quite relaxing. Just got to wait and see what report says and discuss with docs. I couldn’t really afford it, so we’re eating baked beans for tea for a couple of weeks……

Please don't assume that the physio will suggest Pilates again.  Wait until U get the results of the scan to discuss with her rather than the GP.

I have bilateral bursisitis in both sides, I should exercise  :-\.   ::).

Hip pain is felt in the groin, back pain over the 'hip'/pelvis region.

I can't eat baked beans, they bloat me too much  ;D but I can join you with the toast: I'll bring the butter ;-)

Out of interest, more or less what did it cost?  This should include the technician who did the scan as well as for a Consultant to read and report the Results.  I'm unable to take any medication with 'co-codomal' in it!  Paracetamol doesn't touch pain 4 me and Ibuprofen really helps.

Ah back pain is the pits....I hope you get the results back and something positive comes along.
As for baked beans well what can I say... while not bloaty they certainly bring thoughts of recent Storm Amy and high winds :)

I must admit I have been on a roller coaster with Physio....here GP makes you refer yourself to community physio (5 month wait) then given exercises and referred on to a Lifestyle programme ( Physio support group exercise and diet programme) then the Physio took BP and said I could only to diet programme so 3 months on and 10 kilos lighter went back to physio with view to starting the exercise programme and wham I don't qualify anymore due to BMI being below threshold ..... all this to be put on orthapedic pathway with wonky knee...14months and still not referred!.

Enjoy your tea and hope all gets sorted.

Just to add I buy Flarin and they really help my knee pain as I can't tolerate codeine either.

I hate the two tier health system in the UK but glad you have been able to get the imaging you needed.

Too often people are fobbed off with physio, which after a long wait often consists of little more than being handed a printed sheet of exercises which you could have got off the internet.

If the imaging is normal it is not a waste as it gives you peace of mind and clears you for unrestricted exercise, and if something needs treatment you can now move forward.

Physiotherapists are highly trained in skeletal problems and yes, once she had assessed and diagnosed my bursitis, she ran off a printed sheet  ;D and I probably knew that I wouldn't be bothered  :-X.  I self referred and was seen in 10 days - NHS.

Do check your foot wear ;-).  I could solve the Worlds' back problems by giving advice .........  :D also how you sit in your various positions and your mattress and pillows.  Our mattress is probably 15 years old and is almost as comfy as we like it  ;D. I've yet to find a pillow that is actually comfy.   :-\

As oestrogen levels drop fallen arches = back pain may become a problem without us realising. Again a physio will check gait to give advice about suitable foot wear.  How many of you remember stilettos  :o - now many are reaping the rewards  :D.  I fall off slippers, me  ;D
