Prostap and feeling neurotic!
« on: October 17, 2025, 04:43:38 PM »

Hi all.

After some assistance as well as letting it all out!

I’ve had endo and ado for many many years and have had all the fun and games they both bring.  Cutting a long story short, after several laparoscopic surgeries, I’ve finally been referred for a total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.

To get be ready for this I’ve been on:-

1. Zoladex (stopped after two injections due to chronic pain and migraines)
2. Synarel (stopped after 9 months due to bleeding every 12 days)

I’ve just started Prostap and have already started experienced the following:

1. Migraine after first injection and increasing dizziness
2. Four hours after my second injection I had a dizzy spell, passed out and then knocked myself out as I rebounded of the glass coffee table.  Now have a delightful black eye!

One week on and I feel neurotic!  I keep having dizzy spells (nothing to do with the head injury - had scans etc and all fine), feel like I’m having a mental breakdown and feel out of control hormonally.

I’m taking Everol 75 and Cyclogest daily for as back.  But still feel wired!

Anyone had any similar experiences with these GnRH analogues.  They clearly don’t like me!

Trying to work out if I should just stop all HRT to see if this helps with my neurotic feelings or if I need to increase it.

Any thoughts or advice gratefully received!
Certainly not having another Prostap!

Oh and I’m 45

Why can't you just suppress until your surgery with a continuous combined birth control pill, or a double daily dose of cerazette with or without a low strength estrogen patch?

There is also Visanne (dienogest) which is anti-inflammatory and helps to control endo but falls short of full ovarian suppression.

I can’t take contraceptives as I’m allergic to  desogestrel and have had a blood clot

This doesn't rule out dienogest.

Also it would be better and safer to be anticoagulated and take a combined pill than endure what you have with GNRH analogues/antagonists.

Hi BoingBoing,

Sorry to hear about your experiences….it sounds really tough! x

I am on Prostap for PMDD and perimenopause with addback of 4x oestrogel and 2 x utrogestan.

I too have found Prostap gruelling! It took me four weeks to recover from the first one.

I was in bed with severe fatigue and body pain for 48 hours after both. I even took Covid tests after the first one. It wasn’t Covid.

The symptoms have persisted to varying degrees for the past six weeks and I continue to have fatigue and body pain, even with addback. It’s less than it was but still there! Weirdly, I feel better at 8pm onwards than during the day! 🙄

I’m currently too unwell even to work!

I did feel better after increasing. Not well but better.

I’m going to persist with another one and see what happens-I believe it gets better but I don’t know what I’ll do if it doesn’t!

Just wanted to share experience and say hang in there xx
