Burning mouth?
« on: October 28, 2025, 08:57:15 PM »

Evening all  :)
I have been suffering with a burning feeling on my tongue/mouth on and off for the last couple years. It lasts 4-6 months, disappears and the reappears with no good reason. I'm on my 3rd episode now, I have been to my GP who is at a loss as to the cause as my tongue looks normal. It's been treated with anti fungal thrush medication twice, but has made no difference. One GP suggested it was related to elevated testosterone levels and even after significantly reducing my dose its made no difference.
I stumbled across an article this evening that suggested it could be due to hormonal changes in peri - low oestrogen.  I'm tanked up on HRT, so would be surprised if this is the cause, but then maybe I wouldn't as peri seems to have an awful lot of special surprises popping up along the way.
Thought I'd post and see if anyone else has this symptom and if you have a cure for me to try out  ;D ;D ;D

It sounds like burning mouth syndrome which can be a menopausal symptom. Mine started after an allergic reaction to a temporary denture which also coincided with menopause 13 years ago. Nothing I have tried has made any difference including starting HRT 2 years ago. I've got used to it now. There is another thread on here somewhere if you put it in the search box, there might be other ideas which might help.

Yes, I think it sounds like burning mouth syndrome, which unfortunately there is no cure for.
