Hi, I’m 56 years old and have just started last week on Evorel Conti.
Everything I have read says that you should only be on these if you have had infrequent periods for the past year?
 I’m pretty sure that my periods are still normal but it’s hard to tell as I have had no bleeding due to having a Mirena coil for heavy periods for many years.
Early in the year I started spotting and decided to have the Merina removed as it was 7 years old and then I had horrendously heavy periods so I was sent for tests and then had a Hysteroscopy for Polp/Fibroid removal.
All went well and I had 2 “normal” monthly periods afterwards.

As I felt my perimenopause symptoms had got worse and due to the regular periods I still seemed to be having I approached my GP for HRT.

She has prescribed Evorel Conti and I can see on my notes it says “as over 55 can try no bleed continuous”.

I’m wondering if this is correct? I can’t find anywhere online that says it’s ok to use these patches with regular periods if you are over 55?

I’m not sure if I should contact the surgery and question this?

It's up to you - many clinicians incorrectly believe all women are postmenopausal by 55.

If I were you I would consider another mirena or a suppressive oral progestin if heavy bleeding is a problem.

If you want a cyclical HRT regime but your GP doesn't approve, you could alternatively ask for an estradiol patch and separate micronised progesterone.

That way it is in your gift to take it either continuously or sequentially - note that the sequential dose is twice that used continuously, and results in the same number of capsules being used per 28 days overall.

If you're not meno and the mirena suited you I'd get another one, they're good for 4 years for hrt. The problem with a conti regime when you're peri is that it's very unlikely to stop your periods and as the NHS believe the fairy story that every woman is meno by 54 you're likely to be subject to repeated intrusive procedures for 'unexpected bleeding'.
