Hello, I'm new here and glad i have found this forum. I'm 59 year old 6 years in menopause. The reason i went on this treatment was hearing how many felt better. I had just come off of 27 years of antidepressants and did a slow hyperbolic taper. I decided to approached my GP again as  when i turned 50 my mental health took a dive for the worst and they added on more antidepressants sleep aids and benzo. I asked them is it because of hormones ? no reply just this psych meds!! Now last December at 58 after months of being tired, brain fog and apathatc. I said this is it I'm trying Hormone Therapy. Smooth transition on Estrogel and Progersterone it did help with sleep but felt groggy the next day, she stated to take it earlier but placing it in vagina was better for me. NO mood change at 6 months, sore boobs bc she put me on a 75 patch. I figured i needed oral and saw another practionner. In the mean while i travel to Florida in February and on the return got sick, lost my anniversary pandora and my friend was unreasonable so lots of trauma. i was sick for 1 month then in March while travelling sick for 2 weeks. Ever since February i have had a sore throat important for later. This is on 2 estrogel pumps and 2 capsules of progesterone. Some sleep no change in mood or energy. I changed practionner again as i thought i needed testosterone. She put me on compounded oral and compounded progesterone plus other pills like DHEA that  made me too anxious. I get my throat checked twice no strep now really concern alomg with IBS and Gastro issues. I was just diagnosed last week with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux a type of acid reflux also gallbladder full of stones. I refused to take endoscopy and colonoscopy because of medical anxiety. Now recentrly looking up side effects of Hormone and they list bile flow affected, acid reflux and IBS!!!

I want to come off these hormones so I can alleviate  and heal my body. Please help me come up with a plan to taper according to your experiences and stories. I have switched over from oral .5 and oral progesterone 200mg due to ibs issues when taking them orally, there are receptors in our intestines.  To transdermal Estrogel 1 pump and Vaginal Progesterone 100 mg in the last two weeks. I'm having some hot flashes. Thank you for listening. I'm really suffering with all these symptoms and the negative far outways the positive as slight vertigo was remedied.

Thanks for the advice you can give me.

If you aren't comfortable and just want off them, then just stop.

There is no good evidence either way that tapering is superior, but some providers feel it is more humane.

However this typically occurs in the context of loss of access to treatment, eg the provider decides right you've reached X age or duration and I'm pulling your script.

When the patient wants off it there appears little benefit to tapering, especially where either treatment was ineffective or caused intolerable side effects.

A clean break can also make it easier to evaluate how you feel and function on it vs off it, rather than muddying the water by tapering.
