Good morning!

After several attempts at starting HRT and having issues with Evorel Sequi (progesterone part) and the coil sending me into a jittery anxious mess, I finally had my appointment with the menopause clinic yesterday.

She has told me to start with Evorel 25 patches and continuous Utrogestan. She advised me to take 100mg every day and to try orally first, if I have problems then to change to vaginally.

I have massive anxiety around the progesterone due to my past experiences so I’m looking for some positivity from ladies who have been able to tolerate Utrogestan when they have had issue with other forms!

I have my 25 patch on now and will be taking my first ever Utrogeston tonight. 😬

The doctor I spoke to has said that if I struggle with the progesterone then I can have Tibilone which, from reading about on here, sounds like a great option so I’m happy that I do have another route to go down if I struggle with the Utrogestan.

Well, perhaps the silence that has followed your question says it all...

I have found vaginal days 15 - 27 as the only route tolerable.

I don't get on well with my own progesterone so I take the combined pill continuously to prevent ovulation but whilst I was an IVF patient I was taking 400mg micronised progesterone three times daily vaginally and I didn't even notice.

It's really individual how anyone is going to respond but certainly I would not expect it to be worse than your own luteal phase if taken vaginally at least - oral can convert to other metabolites that aren't physiological, however some people do appreciate that for sleep.

What I would say though is that being on a therapeutic dose of estrogen can make progesterone more tolerable, and going from the combi patch which has 50mcg of estradiol to a 25mcg you have actually been somewhat short changed.

As the typical 100mcg dose of continuous progesterone is considered adequate for up to a 75mcg patch, my attitude would be if I'm going to have to take the punishment then I might as well commit the crime, rather than taking 100mcg of progesterone every night and only getting 25mcg of estradiol.

Hi this is my third time trying HRT and I am taking the utgesterone vaginally as didn’t deal with it so well orally. I have been doing that for four months now at least. It much better than before however you can get discharge but it’s minimal. I only take mine 14 days of cycle though. It did make the side effects better

Taking vaginally was a game changer for me. For various reasons that I wont go into I take 200mg continuous. Whilst I could deal with 100mg the side effects from 200mg were awful mainly horrific bloating which in the end made me think I had all kinds of intolerances and was I ignoring something far more sinister. I switched to one orally and one vaginally which within a week it all felt totally normal again. Use a small amount of lube and don’t even put it up particularly far before bed. Most of casing falls out with first wee in morning. On nights for relationships I insert anally. In the same way. Which to be honest I actually prefer.
