Nausea on Utrogestan
« on: August 05, 2025, 09:01:25 AM »

Has anyone else had severe nausea on oral Utrogestan? I have been using it vaginally for 5 years with no issues but have been told to switch to oral by my consultant. I have Gilbert's Syndrome so wondering if it's my liver not coping or maybe this is normal and will pass.

Is there a medical reason to change or is it only the licencing issue? I don't think nausea is a common side effect but the obvious solution would be to continue with vaginal use. You could try doing a search for Gilberts, I know there are some posts about it but I don't know if this has been covered. My own side effects from utro didn't improve, in fact they got worse the longer I used it though it didn't give me nausea.

I have heavy bleeding and what looks like a polyp. Lining is hovering around 4mm. I'm waiting to have a hysteroscopy and biopsies. He is concerned that I am not absorbing the Utrogestan vaginally as atrophy can block it's action. He said a Mirena protects the uterus much better than the Utrogestan but I had a really bad reaction on that same progestin on a triphasic pill in my twenties so he's very reluctant to give it to me.
